Beautiful old farmhouse set in lovely grounds and with excellent hosts. Our room was large and airy overlooking the lakelet, with a beautifully decorated private bathroom complete with a cast iron bath. Emma and Nick are perfect hosts, very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. We stayed for the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power weekend and the morning breakfasts were more than enough to see us right through to lunch and beyond. Fabulous array of breakfast items and fresh home made bread. Would happily recommend for those who like somewhere different to stay with a personal touch. Such a nice difference to commercial hotels.

Room Tip: both rooms are great, but the family room does not overlook the lake.

I am confused by your 'room tip' as our Family room has a large bay window complete with window seats with stunning views of the lake and this view is much enjoyed by our guests as is the lake view from their shower/ bathroom. This is the same view as the lake view from the window of the Chintz room that you stayed in. We much enjoyed having you to stay but I felt that I must correct you on this point as it is misleading to future guests. Our family room is very popular and now has a new shower/bath.

I am so glad that you enjoyed the views from The Hough. With baby moor hens on the lake and ducklings there is always plenty going on at this time of year. A heron or two usually make a daily visit and a black headed gull and if we are lucky a kingfisher as well!

If, like me, you spend much of your time in predictable chain hotels but like something a little less repetative then this is for you. The hosts were most welcoming and accommodating and willing to interject with suggestions to assist in your stay and travel around the area. Our room was large, well equipped, and in a traditional farmhouse style. The breakfast was home cooked as we casually chatted in a traditional farmhouse kitchen and had a plentiful choice for both the traditional and continental breakfast.

Room Tip: They are all good and offer different traditional styles, good accommodation if you seek a more personal touch

Thank you for your lovely comments and I am so glad pleased that you enjoyed your stay. There is a surprising amount to do and see in this area throughout the year and the Whitchurch Food and Drink Fair last weekend was very well attended.

Lovely location on outskirts of Malpas with country views all round.I was born within in 4 miles of location and spent my childhood exploring all the woods and fishing ponds so to return after 40 years to relive my early days was a special experience made better by the welcome we received at The Hough,we were made to fell completely at home a from moment of arrival to our departure. Breakfast each morning in kitchen/diner is the perfect start to day and not to be missed.

We much enjoyed hearing about your memories of this area and how some things have changed whilst others were pretty much as you remembered them from your childhood. It is lovely to welcome guests such as yourselves who have had such a connection with the very small village of Higher Wych and can remember The Hough when it was a working farm.
