Easter hols. This was our first all inclusive hotel experience and it was far better than I expected having read a few weak reviews. Our 2 yr old loved all the staff who were very friendly and helpful, incl the Mini Club staff who always said hello and made her feel welcome despite being too young. They went out of their way to help and put you at ease. The superior room and hotel was very clean and I could not fault the standard of service overall. Yes, most of the drinks and food is buffet style, but even when the hotel was full over Easter, it was not a push to get served and there was plenty of choice at all of the meal sittings. The two theme restuarants were a welcome break from the main dining room and the early sitting was never full. All the food was very fresh and although catering to the bulk of the clients you can always find something to suit. Yes,the food is not 5* or a la carte but then it is not meant to be. The entertainment staff worked their socks off and would I go back, definately. I was sad to leave which says a lot for me, a very fussy traveller. Good vaule for money. Hotel is fairly large but i enjoy the walk to the single large dining room and their is poolside food and drinks at lunchtime by both sets of pools. Good heated pools too but the largest one was unheated but still as warm as the sea. Nice walk along the wide open beach, across the road from the back gate of the hotel with some cafes and bars a short walk to up the beach to the North. Weather was mixed but what I expected from the island at Easter. he breeze will be welcoming I think in the heat of the summer. Booked through Thomson and overall very impressed.

Room Tip: For young families we found the superior rooms in the small block, directly between the two larger b...

Myself, my partner and three girls aged 12, 14 and 15 have just returned from a fab trip to the Paraiso (1st - 12th April). We could not have had a better 12 days. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left everything was excellent, the only slight problem we had was the weather (clouds!!!!) and mosquitos. If anyone has a problem with mosquitos, speak to reception or your travel rep for a mosquito sprayer for the room.
I have read reviews from people who were at Paraiso the same time, I think they were in a different hotel to us.
There was very minimal queueing for the restaurant, prob max wait was couple of minutes. the staff in the hotel turn tables round very quickly. The staff are polite and very clean. The food choice and quality was very good, you could have a different meal every day, including pasta's roast meats and veg. There were a good variety of salds and fish, with more than adequate desserts and ice creams.
It does get a little hectic at peak times, but food is topped up often and cooked fresh. The chefs are constantly checking salads etc.
The themed restaurants are good, but need to be booked in advance. I suggest booking two to three days in advance to guarantee a table.
The self serve beer/soft drinks/tea and coffee pumps were very usefull, the main bar opens from 10.30 to midnight again with minimal queueing even at peak times. Again there is a decent selection of drinks available, Ballantines whisky is defo worth drinking if your a whisky fan, the measures are bordering on a triple!!!!
there is adequate seating around the bar area to sit and chat or play cards.
I dont see the need for anyone to eat away from the hotel, unless your into Michelin star quality. If thats the case, go to the Ritz!!!!
The entertainments team were superb with various activities for kids and adults during the day. and a show in the evenings. There are external shows brought which are fantastic. there was only one show we did not enjoy, as it was a bit strange. The team work their socks off, and look out for Pepi in a mini skirt!!
I reckon the hotel was two thirds full, I think it holds 1300 when full
Finally our two rooms were on the ground floor 30 seconds from bar/pool area and were excellent, size wise and cleanliness. They are serviced daily.
Overall our holiday was very good and i would certainly go back, i know other people have.

A couple of tips-

Get your sunbeds early
For decent car hire, turn right out of the back gate, five minute walk and visit " Carbera medina" We paid about 90 euros for 4 days hire (5 door Astra)

Oh and be awre of rude Germans, who blatently dont know how to queue or be polite, or dress themselves properly!!!

Room Tip: Our rooms were no's 117 and 119

Loved every minute of our week long stay at the Riu Paraiso. I think some people need to get real about the food - we are serious about food, too, we don't put up with any old slop, and we don't agree that the food was bad (you want bad all-inclusive food, try the Tamaimo Tropical on Tenerife). This is a large, all inclusive hotel, if you want a la carte quality every night, then you're not going to get it at this price. The staff are first class, the cleanliness 100% (didn't see a single 'roach all week!), the rooms excellent, the drinks more than adequate and the overall experience very good indeed. We can't wait to go again.

However, we would not pay the price for the tour operator's excursions in favour of hiring a car, much better way of seeing the island.

Room Tip: When booking, ask for upper floor in the main building, you'll get better views from your balcon...

Six of us (all adults) stayed at the Riu Paraiso from 5th to 12th April 2012. We booked last September and paid £4000 including UK VAT and for the "choose your seats" option on Thomas Cook Airways. We arrived early afternoon after a very smooth flight and a straightforward transfer to the hotel and the reception process was speedy and friendly. In fact the strongest asset of this hotel must be the staff, all of whom are friendly and helpful and who do their best for their guests.
Our rooms were adjacent and on the ground floor (128, 130, 132). The view was of the tennis courts but we each had a nice patio with a table and chairs and the room itself was a good size with twin beds (as requested: three parents with adult offspring) and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was large and had a bath as well as a shower that produced constant hot water to a strong pressure.
The hotel is large and spacious. Our rooms were not far away from the bar, restaurant and pools, and the beach is just across the road. The majority of the guests were German but other than the early reservation of sunbeds for which they are of course well known, they were of a wide age range, quiet, polite and no trouble to anyone. Which is of course more than can be said for all of our fellow Brits.

The hotel struggled a bit over the Easter Weekend as it must have been close to capacity and the food went from excellent on Good Friday when there was plentiful smoked salmon and big langoustine style prawns to a lower standard on Saturday and Sunday, and we chose to eat out on both of those nights in search of better dinner and a more leisurely meal rather than a queue and a refuelling experience. No complaints though as you do tend to get what you pay for and this is the bargain end of the all inclusive experience. Breakfast was very good all week and the day time dining room and snack bar combination meant that there was pretty well always food available during the day. We ate in one of the speciality restaurants (Mexican) and it was better than the normal buffet without being particularly authentic. We chose to eat out on four nights and a lunch time, but that was also about wanting to see a bit of local life than a direct complaint about the hotel food.We found an excellent Spanish restaurant in a side street off Puerto del Carmen town and went twice, and we also enjoyed a very nice meal in the old port, and had a fun night out with food and lots of beer and sangria at Rancho Texas. Lunch out is a more debatable experience and I suspect that there is nowhere local that is better than the hotel.
The hotel wine was drinkable if very bland and we chose to buy our aperitif wines from the supermarket and chill them in the room fridge. I like Cruzcampo beer and it was available on a self service basis through the day until midnight. Vodka, Gin, Amaretto and other spirits were cheerfully served in big measures with the ice usually put in after the spirit. No complaints at all. I saw one UK couple served Ballantines Whisky in measures large enough to see some people off in one go!
The beach towel change man was friendly and although the towels were not big fluffy beach towels (Holiday Inn Express rather than Malmaison), I do think that some people need to get real. They were perfectly clean and adequate and were changed as often as requested. The resident cat is black and choosy about tit bits. She turned down prawn and fish from me but enjoyed pork. We saw two other cats much less frequently and they could have been the black cat's mates on a visit. None are any trouble but none can be bothered chasing the two or three resident pigeons.
We went on an excursion to the volcanoes which was very good and had a knowledgeable guide and a careful driver but the excursion was spoiled a little at the end by a pointless stop at a wine bodegas, as there was no tour and the sample offered was pathetic and to add insult to injury, the wines were actually much cheaper in local supermarkets. And not great. We also did the Rancho Texas BBQ evening which was very good and offered plenty of food and unlimited beer and sangria or soft drinks.
Great snorkelling from the sea off the beach over the road - angel fish and bass were the highlights. Beach beds were plentiful and cheaper than Mallorca at €10 for the pair all day.

Would I come back? Yes. This is the quiet end of Puerto del Carmen and although the hotel experience was not the same as the Gran Melia / Sensatori that my wife and I stayed at in Tenerife in February, then again neither was the price (£650 v. £1500 each). This was a very enjoyable holiday.
