We are just back from 2 weeks at Cinco Plaza/Puerto del Carmen. We are a family with a 3 year old child and this was our third trip to the Canaries with our daughter.
I will try and review this place as honestly and accurately as I can:

APARTMENT
1. Our apartments was clean, view was not great for ours as we were given an end-of-row ground floor apartment always in the shade. Bedroom view was to a wall and front view to another wall and walkway. The bedroom can get very hot at night, even in early March and we had to sleep with the window open.
The kitchen is functional and well equipped for basic meals, there is a microwave oven, kettle, toaster, filter coffee maker.

2. Apartment was cleaned almost every day, we missed a few days as the cleaner kept on coming either when our child was taking her afternoon nap (around 1PM) or when we were having breakfast (around 8 AM). Finally they realized that they were better off coming between 9AM and 1PM.
Towels were changed at least 3 times per week, sheets were changed twice in two weeks.

3. Bathroom is on the small side but functional, shower is pretty good and there seems to be plenty of hot water.

4. The floors are tiled, which is great for general cleanliness but bad if your apartment is on the ground floor. On our second week there we were graced by incredibly noisy guests upstairs who would walk around until 4 AM in their heels, watch TV, move furniture/chairs around the place and listen to music until dawn. Complained to reception but nothing was done about it. The tiled floors do not help with sound insulation.

POOL AREA
1. We only used the kids' pool located in Plaza del Sol. In general this area was reasonably clean except for some of the guests who let their young children swim in the pool naked .. with inevitable accidents (we found floating "accidents" of the brown type in two occasions.. and we cannot how many times the other type of accidents did occur).

2. Some guests were drinking and eating by the pool and left their cans, food wrappers etc on the floor .. and obviously these would be blown around the area by the wind.

3. What was annoying were large groups of people "reserving" their sunbeds for long periods, by leaving their towels on them. Since we have a young child we were unable to actually sunbathe for long periods and were instead taking turns to sit outside for an hour. This sunbed group-reservation attitude of the majority of the guests was quite intimidating as either of us felt uneasy when trying to find a seat by these large groups or free up one when these were left vacant for long periods (we were trying to avoid confrontation). We were seldom able to get a seat when it suited us.

RESTAURANT
1. We ate at the restaurant and snack bar several times. The food is good but nothing spectacular however it was clean and reasonable value.
Soft drinks, water and juices are expensive.

2. The restaurant offers a themed buffet dinner every day. We tried it twice and we did not enjoy it since the buffet area is poorly organized with humongous queues . Also thanks to a number of very pushy and rude guests we were unable to return to the buffet for the main course and desserts once we finished our salads/entrees.

KIDS CLUB
We did not avail of the kids club as it is for 4+ only and also because it was set up for Scandinavians only.

LOCATION
The hotel is situated on top of a steep hill, it is a 5/10 minutes walk to the beach and restaurants. It can be problematic for people with mobility problems.

INTERNET
We had to buy their wi-fi package as we needed to stay in touch with work occasionally. Even after buying the wi-fi the reception in our apartment was dreadful and we were forced to sit outside on the walls by the pool to type up a few emails.

GENERAL COMMENTS
The only comments we have are mainly about the rudeness of the clientele we encountered while at Cinco Plaza. We found the fellow guests (mainly Scandinavians who travelled in large groups apparently) very rude, pushy and quite frankly intimidating.
That said, the apartment worked well for us as we spent most mornings down at the beach and only spent minimal time in the pool area. Most times we ate our main meal in one of the sea-front restaurants down the hill.

Returned last week from a week at the Cinco Plazas. The apartments are spacious and airy and were perfect for us. Have to complement the cleanliness, the apartment was spotless and the beds were pretty much brand new.

The pool area was lovely, no problem with number of sunbeds although the pool water was somewhat cold! There was a small baby pool as well which was ideal for our 15 month old.

The location of the complex is fab, a short 3-4 minute walk from the main strip. There is an incline so maybe if you have walking difficulties this would be a problem but for the vast majority it should be fine. We were fine, easily fine with a pushchair and our daughter toddled up and down no problem. My only comment would be if you are a young family in high season, this might be a bit too close to the main strip of Puerto del Carmen but in February it was perfect.

The onsite supermarket is extremely pricey so head next door to HyperDino. The car hire place opposite was very cheap in comparison to Thomson and the car/insurance were fine.

Our holiday was wonderful, enhanced by a great accommodation and we would most definitely think about returning here again.

The Cinco is a lovely place to stay. It has 3 different pool areas and the apartments are all around them. We stayed around one of the smaller pools and where happy we did as we have small children and the bar would still be going strong when we where off to bed.
The main strip is around a 5 min walk down hill. The area around cinco is quite rundown and the pavement is a little cracked, just be aware of that.
The supermarket next door is brill 'hyperdino' I think it was called. Everything you need in there and its the cheapest around.
Cinco is a lively place full of kiddies during the school hols. It's basic but clean and the main plus for us where the pools.
We love PDC but if we are visiting in July, Aug, Sep again. We will stay somewhere there is Air Con.

My husband and I stayed here from 19th-26th December 2010.Our cases were not loaded into the plane in Birmingham and I have to say the staff at Cinco Plaza were so helpful. Our Thomsons rep was not at all proactive but the reception staff were exceptionally helpful.Alejandro even phoned the Spanish directory enquiry service and found a local optician so we could purchase contact lenses that were still in our cases. There were plenty of sunbeds however the more comfortable ones went pretty quickly. The location was perfect for us, about 5 min walk down a hill to the main strip. My only slight criticism would be the 2 single beds in the room. One was more comfortable than the other so we swapped beds a few times. The rooms were cleaned every day. There were more Scandinavians than British was was fine.We had lunch at the hotel a few times and the meals were very nice and not as expensive as I thought they would be. Overall a very nice stat despite having no luggage for 4 days.

When we arrived we were given a room that overlooked a brick wall one side and roadway another. Wasnt too bothered as we only wanted a base. But room was very smelt of sewerage. Next morning we pulled the plug in the sink in the kitchen and sewerage came up into the bath.Reception gave us another room that had a brick wall both sides. When we spoke to the receptionist he was very polite but said that at that time of the year all rooms overlooking any pool areas had been taken by the scandinavians. They had paid extra for that.So I would say dont go there at that time of the year. The bar was also closed before 11pm at night. I assume this was what the other guests wanted also.We go away three times a year and this is the first time that i have neede to be so negative.Loved the resort but wont stay there again
