“Pure Bliss!”

Excellent location, beautifully maintained, helpful and unobtrusive staff. We were two families keen to spend some time away from the heat and dust of the plains yet anxious to avoid the crowd who swarm in hordes to the hill stations near Delhi during peak summer - and this was the perfect retreat.

An easy drive to the lake yet far enough to offer the much sought after peace and quiet. There is nothing really negative to write about this place unless I want to nitpick.

So, here's hoping that we get a chance to revisit sometime in the near future.

“Charming place with most comforts in place”

3 nights and 4 days of complete bliss. Not easy to come by in the mad tourist rush of the summer holiday season. This place provides it.

Everything is not perfect in life, but if we had to complain about this place, it would be about two things - the lack of laundry facilities (a washing machine, a dryer, an iron and an ironing board), and the fact that the wi-fi doesn't actually download / upload any data after logging in.

Would love to be back sometime in the near future.

“Absolute Bliss !!!!”

They say “what is written in your destiny can’t go anywhere else”. We had last year made a plan to visit Jim Corbett Park, and Nainital, but due to some last minute issues, couldn’t make it possible.

Around that time, we had checked out “this property” and were literally in awe of it. Felt really disappointed, when we could not make the trip.

Maybe even god had made a secret note of the same, and hence gave us a “second chance” to visit Nianital for a friend’s marriage.
We were a group of eight people and we drove down from Delhi (around 8-9 hours journey), and reached the place. The journey was pretty nice but due to some issues, we could only reach by 9-10 pm. But the caring host that Vidyun is, she was just waiting for us, and greeted us all with a smile and made us feel comfortable.

(Also, I would like to inform you all that, she drives a jeep and has a superb dog, and lot many cats).

Though we have seen many vacation rentals, but trust me, this has to be one of the BEST (has to be in capital letters). I have clicked some pictures from my phone, and am sure everyone will attest to the fact. If Vidyun was nice, her staff was the nicest you would ever meet. Dinesh (the housekeeping guy) and Kailash (the cook), were exemplary. They say, you just name it, and the good employees would get it. But the best employees don’t let you even mention it, and get it beforehand only. And these, two came in the “second” category.

The food was home cooked & sumptuous (both in quality and quantity), the seating perfect, the chai “one of the very best”, the bed supremely comfortable and the “hot water bags” at night, making it a trip to remember.

No matter, what you like doing. Be it going for treks, walking down the lake, having a campfire, cooking something special, sitting for a drink with friends, long night chats, reading a book, playing cards or even a simple thing like “sitting idle”, then it is the place to be. The staff is courteous, the host sweet and the views mesmerizing.

The house is colonial in terms of architecture, but pretty modern in term of accessories. LCD TV’s, complimentary wi-fi and hot water geysers are the norm here.

The only regret we have is that “it didn’t last forever”.

Though we all together have planned to buy a “similar” house in future when we grow old, which we know won’t be possible, and hence we have promised ourselves a return trip, sometime in 2015.

“Home away from Home”
Reviewed 3 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

I stayed at Cottage by Woods, Nainital between 17-20 June 2014. We were two families, which included 5 adults and 3 kids. We were trying to find a place which is home away from home, rather than a hotel and this place met our expectations. This is a private estate, which belongs to Ms Sanjivini Rathore and located 10-15 mins away from Mallital, towards Barapathar (enroute to Shervani Hilltop). Location is good and the scenic beauty is absolute bliss. You can view various peaks from here and it is away from all the hustle of the main Nainital area.

There are 3 bedrooms with attached bathrooms, followed by Drawing area, dining area and fully operational kitchen. 2 rooms are big and one is little small in comparison. The propety is well maintained and recently refurbished with 32” LCD in all rooms and complimentary Wifi. There is huge balcony in front and well managed lawn towards the right. Backside is Forest area which add to the beauty. This property is kid friendly and our kids played cricket, badminton in the lawn and enjoyed alot. We hired cook for Rs 500/- per day (excluding material) and that proved to be a good decision in order to avoid outside food everyday. Cook is very good and prepared delicious dishes for us. Staff is courteous and polite, especially Kailash and Narender.

Not to forget, Ms Vidyun Rathore, who takes care of the property on behalf of her mother is a wonderful host and very nice to interact with. She understood our requirements very well and was able to deliver the services accordingly. Thank you Vidyun for your gesture, however there are couple of suggestions regarding the property which will be helpful for guests:
1. Kindly install windows with net to avoid insects entering inside during evening and night & this will help the guests to breathe fresh air, while they are inside the cottage.
2. The gap at the bottom of outside door of the washroom needs to be fixed in order to avoid insects entering the washroom, especially during rainy season.

Few Tips for travellers:
• For first timers in any Cottage, either you take some basic food stuff alongwith you or it is always suggested to hire the cook.
• Wifi is available through BSNL, so the service level does not remain efficient. So 2g or3g will help.
• It is OK to open windows in afternoon but advisable to close during the evening to avoid small insects entering into the rooms.
• You can ask the staff to arrange the rental car. They can assist you.
• You can ask the staff to arrange Horses to visit Dorothy Peak. The way to this peak is 5 mins away from this property.
• Rs 200/- shall be charged each time the staff member is sent to main city to buy grocery or anything else. So it is advisable to pan and then order the stuff for next couple of days.

Overall it was an amazing experience and we were able to spend quality time with family and kids. Thumbs up to Cottage by Woods.
