Good hotel but be selective about the room you book

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Jan 2020via mobile
My wife and I stayed at the Percy French hotel on New Year’s Eve. We were in the area for a funeral and, because of the circumstances we were not interested in the traditional entertainment which occurs at that time. Luckily the hotel didn’t have entertainment that night.
We were lucky enough to be given a pleasant room on the 3rd floor. Although there is no lift the climb was not particularly onerous. The room was quiet and we had a good nights rest.
The staff were pleasant and helpful. We had dinner in the hotel and were happy with the food.
My brother and sister stayed in rooms on the first floor and were kept awake for most of the night by talkers downstairs.
Their stay was not as pleasant as ours.
All in all I would recommend this hotel subject to the caveat above.

the hotel staff and food was good however we were kept awake by 2 couples in the lobby until 5 in the morning and therefore got very little sleep, mentioned to receptionist in the morning with some sympathy expressed but didnt hear from management after that. the night porter was on duty.

This little hotel in Strokestown, County Roscommon, Ireland, is a gem. The manager, Ita, is a wonder! How can one person be everywhere at once? I don't how she does it, but she does. The rooms are on the small size but very comfortable. The staff is extreely helpful, and will provide all types of information. Sightseeing tips. Prompt securing of taxis. Name it and you will have it. The restaurant service is good and there is a good menu selection. The bus stop is right across the street and service is reliable. While in Strokestown, be sure to visit the Famine Museum. It is just two blocks from the hotel.

Stayed for 1 night. There web site was very easy to use, booked in to hotel in seconds.
It's a great stopover on the way to the west. Breakfast was just ok. Lovely staff, good parking at the rear, rooms clean. I would stay again.

Visited for diner. Atmosphere friendly, about half of the tables occupied. Bar staff friendly. Menu offered little selection for vegetarians. We ordered fish and chips and spinach and ricotta tortellini. The fish was over cooked and the chips frozen not fresh. The tortellini and sauce, whilst perfectly tasty, was just like it had been bought from a supermarket. Average.

We stayed here one night only. Thankfully this was only one night as the hotel rooms are not best soundproofed. This would likely be fine in normal circumstances and it is not the hotel's fault that there were rowdy people from a different continent staying who occupied the corridors until late talking very loudly, running round (on the old floorboards which made the room shake) and having loud chats with their doors open. We should have told the reception but who wants to after midnight? Anyway, the rooms were quite small but nice enough. The food in the bar was sufficient if maybe a bit rustic and basically thrown together. The staff in it were quite pleasant, as was the receptionist (if present at the reception). The breakfast was included and was pleasant and a good start to the day.
