Shame about the noise

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Aug 2019
We stayed here one night only. Thankfully this was only one night as the hotel rooms are not best soundproofed. This would likely be fine in normal circumstances and it is not the hotel's fault that there were rowdy people from a different continent staying who occupied the corridors until late talking very loudly, running round (on the old floorboards which made the room shake) and having loud chats with their doors open. We should have told the reception but who wants to after midnight? Anyway, the rooms were quite small but nice enough. The food in the bar was sufficient if maybe a bit rustic and basically thrown together. The staff in it were quite pleasant, as was the receptionist (if present at the reception). The breakfast was included and was pleasant and a good start to the day.

Mt husband and I had a night away for my 70th birthday. We chose the Percy French Hotel because it was the only hotel although there are a few B&Bs.
The outside is well painted and colourful with flower baskets, there is plenty of parking at the back.
The room was on the 3rd floor (be advised there is no lift!!) and it was a bit of a hike. The room was lovely with a big double and a single under the eaves but with a nice view of the town. Beware! The people in the chipper across the street can see you at the window.
The bathroom, although very dated with green and white subway tiles, was spotlessly clean with loads of towels and some toiletries.
The breakfast the next morning was lovely and there was plenty of it. It would set you up for the day and helpfully they serve until 11 am.
There was no one at reception when we arrived and we had to wait quite a long time. It seems the staff, who are lovely, have double duties in the hotel
In my opinion reception should be the face of the hotel and someone should be there full time all the time.

We stopped here for lunch last Friday. Busy on arrival with locals. We ordered 4 sandwiches from our yet to be cleaned table. When the cutlery arrived I went to stir my tea and discovered my spoon was covered in congealed tomatoe ketchup, disgusting to say the least. Our sandwiches arrived and they were just fine, I’d make way better myself at home. €47 for 4 sandwiches and 4 tea/coffees. Pricey considering the quality of the food and service. Will we stop again on our way through, no.

Firstly, we had to go to the bar to get our drinks and food menu as no waitress or waiter came over to our table. I was given a bottle of lemonade that was 3 months out of date and had definitely gone off. The burger that I ordered was overcooked and just plain ordinary. There was nothing special about the food. My husband ordered steak and again, there was nothing special. He had to ask for the sauce that supposedly came with it. Service was poor. Decor was brown and very bland. The tables could do with a bit of colour or flowers and the walls could do with come pictures or paintings on them. Food was poor and unless something changes, I will not be going back here. The burgers from Antoinelles across the road from here are better than the one I had.

Stayed for 2 nights as part of attending a conference in Boyle. Although rooms can do with being upgraded and freshened up, the staff and food were amazing. We were in a large party and treated so well.

The staff at this hotel were lovely but the hotel itself is a bit run down! Food a tad School dinner like... fair but not great! Carpet on stairs worn and dirty looking. Hairs on bath... not the cleanest! Needs a refurb! The night I stayed there was a very loud crowd below in the bar. Went on until 11 or so! Not too late but after a day of work and a long drive with work the next day it was too much! Won’t stay again!
