The Derbyshire Derby
Ranked #2 of 2 Hotels in South Normanton

This hotel is close to a very busy junction of the M1 and is ideally located the local retail park and residents close by.

The rooms have all that you need and there is a leisure complex on site, the hotel has up both bar and restraunt outlets available some of the offerings I thought were a bit heavy on price and they bar was reasonably stocked however it is very extensive compared to other outlets in the area.

The hotel does have a good wifi service free of charge and breakfast is comprehensive, the main issue I had was road noise, trying to sleep with a window open as I always do was not giving a comfortable nights sleep.

As usual I will finish of would I take my mothering law, no to noisy for her

Room Tip: Hard to tell as you are surrounded by a busy motorway junction

Dear Chris H,
Thank you for reviewing your recent stay at The Derbyshire. I am sorry you experienced some road noise during your recent visit. It is not normally a comment which we receive as our rooms are well soundproofed. I am glad you took advantage of the leisure and spa facilities and you enjoyed your breakfast, I do hope we can welcome you again in the near future.
Kind Regards
Anna

I recently visited the spa with 3 friends after we got a deal from Groupon. All the staff were welcoming and we were provided with a robe, towel and slippers. The pool is quite small and is a funny shape therefore swimming lengths was difficult, also there was children in the pool which I have never experienced before when on a spa day. There wasn't many beds around the pool either and when we first arrived a lot of the beds had towels on but no one was using them, we did eventually get a bed each though and we were able to lay and relax. The jacuzzi, sauna and steam room were all fab.

As part of the package we got two treatments. I had a facial and back / shoulder massage. The therapist was a lovely girl but a little chatty during my treatments, although she was being polite and asking me questions, I personally would have preferred silence throughout as it allows me to relax more, also I feel the room I was in could have been darker to provide a more relaxing atmosphere.

The food was really nice and good value for money and you are able to stay in your robes to go the bar / restaurant area however there was lots of people dining and having business meetings etc so I did feel a little uncomfortable. A separate area for spa guests would be better however I understand it may not be possible.

All in all we had a really nice day and for the price I believe we got a real bargain.

This hotel has a good restaurant with reasonable restaurant prices albeit the menu is slightly limited. The quality of food is good including the breakfast. The rooms are very reasonably priced, with £85 for an upgrade including bath-robes, slippers, water etc. and including a full breakfast for both guests as well as the ability to cancel is travel plans require it.The swimming pool is small(ish) but adequate. McArthur Glen shopping complex is within easy reach as are other attractions such as Royal Crown Derby factory, Denby factory etc. The hotel sits near the M1 and the A38 so is a good 'stop over' for travellers. Overall, good value for the money.

Room Tip: The upgrade is well worth it in our opinion

We decided at the last minute to avoid Friday traffic and go up to Nottingham a day early. Booking at the hotel was easy and a good price. Having checked some reviews they were not great but we were only staying one night.
Given some of the recent reviews we were really pleasantly surprised as we had an excellent stay. The room was not large but was well appointed and the shower was really good. Very large towels are also welcome. The room was warm but we opened the window and got the temperature down. We had dinner included and the food was of very good quality, well prepared, cooked and presented. The staff were all friendly and welcoming so a really good experience. This continued at Breakfast where again there was excellent choice and the food was hot and because of demand, freshly cooked. Altogether we really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Perhaps go for a room not on the ground floor
