we used travel zoo and for £79 dbb was very good value. The room was clean and tidy as was the hotel. Food at dinner and breakfast was of good quality and would recommend this hotel if done on a deal will use again.

My husband and I stayed at the Derbyshire on 10th & 11th August 2012. We were visiting friends in the local area and decided to make a weekend of it! We booked our accommodation through booking.com (reasonable rate of £59 per couple for B&B), but they messed up our booking and we were only booked in for the first night. Once resolved on our arrival, with no apology from the hotel - although admitting it was an 'inputting error' on their part, we were relieved to learn rooms were still available on the second night. Our room was pleasant, the air conditioning was a plus, the bathroom was clean - although whoever was last in the bathroom cleaned their hairbrush out and had not flushed, as the toilet pan was full of blonde hair! The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and like another reviewer we found our feet were higher than our heads. Not wanting to complain and experience the hassle of moving rooms, we turned the matress ourselves and used two pillows instead of our usual one and this resolved the problem. It was suggested that a quiet time for breakfast would be before 8.30am, but there was a lack of food available and replenishment was very slow. We had to wait for both bacon and eggs which for a buffet is unacceptable. The second night after returning from our day out, we noticed that no bath towels had been left in the room, so called reception to ask for some (my husband by this time in the shower as we were being collected by friends at 6.45pm). However they did not arrive and we both ended up drying ourselves on the hand towels. Breakfast the second morning was much better, we creeped in just before 11am and was surprised to find it was so much better than the quieter time as suggested. We didn't have either lunch or evening meals at the hotel so cannot comment on the food. However, the bar prices were high and this was a little off putting. The tea and coffee making facilities were as expected, but there was no mini-fridge so make sure you take a bottle of water along with you if you like a drink during the night.

Room Tip: I am not sure where the good rooms actually are, we were not far from Reception but I did hear one m...

I am sorry you got off to a bad start when arriving at the hotel to find a second night had not been reserved for you, I am pleased the Reception team did resolve this for you and you were able to stay another night as planned

The issues with hair in your toilet and no bath towels is not what you would expect from a four star hotel, I will certainly speak with the housekeeper to ensure this does not happen for any other guests, thank you for bringing this to my attention

I am surprised to read you comments that the bed was uncomfortable, we receive many positive comments from our guests to what good nights sleep they get, we could have placed a mini fridge in the room for you if only you had mentioned it to the reception team

We do regular analysis on other hotels in the area and our bar prices are very similar to our competitors

I do hope you consider coming back to the hotel to give us another chance to make amends for your previous disappointment

Kind Regards

Recently returned from a great stay at this hotel. Reception and restaurant staff efficient, friendly helpful and smiled at guests, wow! We enjoyed watchig a co-ordinated team in action
We were so impressed by our meal on the first night in particular, our compliments were conveyed to the chef, well deserved!
We found our bedroom was a comfortable haven, with a clean bathroom with a nice long bath. a brill 2 nights sleep, (unusual for my husband)
We took our push bikes as there our several cycle rides within resonable distance, with great scenery to enjoy. Understandablly the hotel hasn't a bike shed, however the staff were always happy to make sure we had a secure place to keep them.
I must comment about reviews stating aspects of datedness. A long the room is clean and well presented surely we can understand choices have to be made to enable us all to ride the recession and it seems to us the Derbyshire has got it right.
We got quality food and service at a good price, and we are not reticent with critical assessments of places we go.
We have booked again with another couple and on our own. Looking forward to both visits (I hope to a little shopping in the nearby Designer Outlet, not told hubby yet!)

Thank you taking the time to post your most pleasing review,

I am pleased you found my staff to be efficient, friendly and helpful this does make the guest stay more enjoyable and more likely to visit us again, they do smile as they enjoy working for the Derbyshire ! Team work is an important part in the training managers strategy she will be very pleased to read your comments

I appreciate your comments regarding other reviews stating aspects of tired and dated décor, fixtures and fittings, the recession as not been good for a lot of business, but we will continue to offer good food, clean accommodation and attentive service to all our guests with good value deals.

I see you have booked again for another two visits that is fantastic and very much look forward to welcoming you and your friends for another enjoyable stay

Kind Regards

As the title says... If you are a business traveller and all your looking for is a bed, then you have it..

Check-in was fine, very prompt and friendly..

The issue was that when I went to the room, I was certain that the heating had been left on.. No aircon as previously mentioned, left the window open while I went to have my evening meal. Came back but it hardly made a difference, you either put up with the heat or open the window and get the M1 traffic noise. There must be an issue with pipes for pool or some other heating system that run under certain rooms or floors.. I asked about the heat on check out but just said it had been a very warm night in general.. I stayed at a different hotel the next night when it was warmer with no issues so it can't have been the outside temp..

Food in restaurant was ok, ordered a burger with hand cut chips... Not too good and if I were paying rather than expenses, I would have sent it back..

Not bad, just not that good..

It was pleasing to read your check in was prompt and friendly, not all our rooms are air conditioned, although we can provide fans upon request which tend to cool the rooms considerably during the very hot and humid weather we have been having lately.

The hotel is ideally situated for conference and leisure facilities alike, it was disappointing to hear your food was just ok, the menu will be updated shortly, I will certainly speak to the Chef and his Team we usually receive many positive comments about how good are burgers are, I am sorry this was not the case in your instance.

I do hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back whether it be for business or pleasure

Kind Regards

If this hotel were an Olympic sport it would win GOLD. The staff are all great, very pleasant, polite and work as a team. The rooms are good. The spa is also very good. The food is fabulous. We enjoyed our first evening meal so much we invited some friends to join us for our wedding anniversary the following evening. The cost was very reasonable. £20 per head for a 2 course meal of excellent quality. We went on a Travel Zoo deal and will be going back very soon. I also bashed the door the first time I went into the room but soon remembered to hold onto it as it opened. Great experience and only and hour away from home with lots to do and see in the area. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel. It is so easy to get to and a real bargain for £77 per night for 2. Fabulous GOLD winner. Stick it on your bookmark page.

Room Tip: Opt for a quiet room away from the M1 noise.
