“Sol Princess Dacil in January 2013”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2013

My wife and I have just returned on the 18th January 2013 from a week holiday staying in the Sol Princess Dacil. Our first impressions of this hotel were not good, although we paid a lot of money for our 2 week stay we were allocated a standard room on the first floor overlooking the Pool. The room was awful very small, no where to sit except on the bed. The TV did not work, one bed looked as though it was about to collapse. The furniture was mostly broken or worn out. The bathroom was fairly big but in the same condition as the rest of the room worn out and the shower sprayed water all over the floor. On the plus side this room had a very large balcony over looking the pool, with 2 plastic chairs to sit on. If you wanted any other patio equipment pay extra, there is a lot of pay extra at this hotel.

We suffered this room for 2 nights before I asked for a transfer to another room, the girls on reception were every helpful and I was given a key to another room to look at. This room was a apartment of the 8th floor again overlooking the pool. The room was 3 times larger than our cupboard, with a large living room with sofa, chair, TV, much smaller balcony, huge bedroom and a good sized bathroom. I was given the choice of taking the second room straight away because it would probably not be available in the morning. Although it was 1030pm we changed room that night. We were not charged for changing to the larger room and enjoyed the remainder of our stay at the hotel.

The prices of drinks at the bar are very expensive, the charge for use of Internet in the reception area is very expensive. If you can afford it go all inclusive and have a good time you will save money. There are 2 internet cafes 2 minutes and 10 minutes from the hotel offering free internet as long as you buy something.

The food offered was Ok they cater for a lot of people on a self service basis, there is a lot to choose from and you can make up a different meal every day. Again if you are all inclusive the drinks with your meal are free. If you want a cushion on your chair at the pool guess what you have to pay extra.

The TV is all Spanish except for Sky news and a couple of other news programe's.

All in all except for the poor room at the start we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location compaired to other hotels is quite good and not far from the nearest beach. Beware of the Brits queuing up at 0800am to get into the gardens to put towel's on the beds, I put a few on the floor and took a picture of the sign stating reserving beds with towels is not permitted,

Room Tip: The rooms on the pool side get all the sun till late in the afternoon, rooms on the reception side g...

We spent Christmas 2012 and had two weeks of wall to wall sunshine. The hotel is comfortable and relaxing and good value for money. Rooms are clean, well maintained and there were fresh towels every day. Any criticisms are not of the hotel's making - guests taking towels from the bathroom and using them at the pool and also at the beach. More than adequate loungers at the pool and surrounding areas but again patrons marking beds as soon as the pool opened in the morning and possibly not using them at all during the morning. Lovely green areas around the hotel and plenty of seating accommodation.

The location is excellent - you could say "location-location" - close to all amenities. There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and possibly this is something which could be provided.

Staff very friendly and helpful. If there is a problem with anything in the room (e.g.) key card not working, the problem is put right immediately.

We regard the hotel as a "home from home". We always enjoy our stay and spend Christmas there on a regular basis.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor or a pool facing room. If you want a quieter room choose one on the south sid...

Just returned from a week at this hotel. We had a room on the 12 floor which we liked the view was fantastic. We did not expect such a large room we had 3 rooms in all, lounge, bathroom and bedroom but had only paid for a double room. The bed was as hard as iron. Shame there are only 3 channels in English on the TV especially as the majority of guests are English but we did not miss it that much. Can't understand people saying it is 10 mins walk from the beach we did it in much less each day. Food was edible and each day we were able to find something we enjoyed. Disappointed that the pool was cold it was so cold i would say it was a health hazard as anyone jumping in would be in danger of a heart attack, my advce get in slowly but if you want to enjoy a swim go to the beach the water is warmer. Hotel was clean and some of the entertainment was very good. Moans aside we would go again as it was well worth the money

Room Tip: Pot luck really.

stayed at this hotel 4th -14th january 2013 got room with pool veiw with sun most of the day temp around 72 during the day which was pleasent. Hotel clean with fresh towels every day food was varied except for the soup(i think there must have been an abundance of asparagus during our stay) location is excellent for beach bars and bus station the down side is the extra's the rooms have no tea making facilities or fridges, however kettles and mini fridges can be hired.as can tv remote which is of no use as apart from bbc news sky news and the cbs channel the rest are in spanish there is no air con unless you up grade at 20 euro per day
Safety deposit boxes are also extra 29 euro for 10 days (which are free at most hotels ) with a 5 euro return when you hand in the key
wifi tennis, irons fans, hairdyers are also available at a cost as are cushions for the sun lounger.

notices are displayed stating that produce is not to be taken from the restaurant but as stated by previous visitors there was no attempt to challenge people many of which took handsful of fruit passed the door supervisor.
Which brings me to the evening meal ,no free drinks facilities are available tea ,coffee and juice machines are turned off as you are expected to purchase drinks from the bar unless you areall inclusive
Being a diabetic i could not have wine only water many diner's taking their own from outside which was much cheaper.
I therefore decided to take a small bottle of zero sugar orange drink to consume with my meal
No sooner had I sat down than I was approached by a member of staff whose job was to lay and clear tables the conversation was thus.Do you know it is against hotel policy to bring in your own drink , no I replied. YOU DO NOW he retorted and walked away. taken aback by his lack of tact I waited till he came to clear our table and asked for his name YARAY was his reply the moral is that you can take as much food and drink as you like from the restaurant without challenge but don't you dare bring anything in
The shop downstairs is also not allowed to sell water due to hotel policy.
Beer in the hotel is 3 euro per pint which seems resonable until you find local bars selling the same for 1 euro with superior entertainment to the dross offered in the concert room
Beds also leave a lot to be desired unless you like a hard matress and god help those who go during the summer with no air con
Food in the local restaurants is very cheap we therefore wish we had just gone b@b instead of half board.

Room Tip: pool view every time not much sun on the other side

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2013

We have been holidaying in the canaries for the last 11 years at christmas time so feel we have realistic expectations for our hotels. Booked to stay here xmas 2012 for 2 week all inclusive, 4 adults, 1 toddler. Paid about £5 grand with Jet2. Lasted 2 days before moving hotels. I looked into tripadviser reviews before we went so just wanted to give my honest review to stop other people being disappointed in the future. Our biggest issues were with the food, pool area & disabled access.
PROS:
- if you book self catering would be ideal base - good location for walking on promenade. busy atmosphere but relaxing resort, nice little beach nearby, lots of bars & restaurants, harbour to watch boats.
- Clean rooms
- some friendly and helpful staff (mainly reception staff)
- transfer time from airport
- older people seem to like it here. (felt like my dad was youngest 1 there - he's 64!)
CONS:
- we microwaved our 'hot' food at every meal. some food unrecognisable e.g. meat in gravy all tasted the same. Grilled fish & meat poor quality & dry. Flies on fruit, salad, cheese & cold meat selection. Dry crusty bread at each meal.
- Access for disabled extremely poor. My dad has breathing difficulties & can be unsteady on his feet. He had to scale 2 flights of stairs to go to the toilet when we were in the lounge/bar/restaurant. Ramps for wheelchairs/buggies available but weirdly steep& dangerous. (he was told he could use a staff lift & was led into a toilet in what he described as a dungeon)
- Pool area was dirty (including pool bar with broken chairs that ripped your clothing & filthy tables). Big drop from edge of pool into water. NOT SUITABLE FOR TODDLERS. Was told I was not allowed to have my son near the big pool unless he had armbands on & he should stay near the baby pool (which was colder, in the shade & dirty) I've never heard anything so ridiculous - Can understand if he was unsupervised but he would never be.
- upgraded mum&dad's room for a beautiful view of..... a large metal fire escape staircase!! Upgrade not worth it in our case as our room was just as nice for cheaper.
- Several staff in restaurant/bar were abrupt. Not quite rude but not friendly either.
- On both days of our stay there were 2 separate private parties that took over whole areas of the hotel. On 1 day it was a pool party for a large group of spanish children (took over pool, pool bar & all outdoor play areas e.g. tennis courts etc). The other was a large party in disco room downstairs with lots of drunken guests smoking pot & spilling drinks on the floor. Had to pass this area to go to the toilet & slipped with my son. He was frightened by the drunken shouting.

I sound like a real moaning minnie but I was so disappointed with the hotel. Luckily Jet2 were great and once we got to our new hotel we had an amazing holiday and will be back in the canaries again next xmas.
If you do go here DONT DO ALL INCLUSIVE!
