“stay here...you will thank me later”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2011

The Garden of Eden is one of the most spectacular places we have ever stayed. The hosts Bob and Helena are very accomodating and go way out of their way to make sure your stay is what you expect out of a bed and breakfast on it's own island. We had the whole place to ourselves for 3 days and had great conversations with them. Just like we've known them for years. Mimi the cook/housekeeper/massause/dishwasher/waitress/etc. was FANTASTIC! Bocas town is a short 15 minute water taxi ride away. Red Frog beach is a short kayak trip accross the water. Having spent some time in Bocas town it is a place to visit not stay and Garden of Eden is definatly worth the extra effort.

Room Tip: the higher priced room is more private but the other 2 rooms are just as nice and actually have a be...

We spent 4 wonderful days here and were sad to leave! The owners, Helena and Bob, are great hosts with great tastes in music! They have 2 beautiful parrots and a wile toucan named Woody who has a love of papaya. Their dog, Malo, is one of the most well behaved dogs we have ever met and provides great company! The rooms are very clean with comfortable beds and lovely balconies that overlook the ocean and are equipped with a-must-have hammock that is perfect for dosing in the sea breeze! There is a very cozy atmosphere to the resort. There only 3 cabins to house guests which allows for a great chance to meet and mingle with other travelers while still having plenty of space to zone out and relax solo. The food was excellent and while not listed on the menu, Helena was always willing to make special vegetarian dishes for her non-carnivore guests. The resort is surrounded by beautiful mangroves which are great for snorkeling and/or kayaking around and there is also a private beach that is great for sunning. The staff were kind, accommodating and always welcoming. We plan on returning and highly recommend this place to everyone interested in a private and relaxing retreat!

We were on a 15 day escape at low season in Costa Rica and ended up in Bocas on a whim. Thanks to TripAdvisor, we discovered Garden of Eden. Our stay there was the highlight of a trip that was already fantastic. Helena and Bob were the consummate hosts, making us feel totally comfortable and managing to find the perfect blend of providing constant TLC and yet giving us time and space to pretend like this was our own little private island. We enjoyed the pets, the kayaks, the pool (gorgeous), the food, the well-stocked refrigerator, and everything else. The largest room is the most private, but I'd opt for one of the smaller rooms right by the pool. We will definitely find a way to stay here again, and for longer!

I’ve lived all over the world. I’ve lived in Germany, Italy, Hawaii, and all over the United States. I HAVE been to Spain, but until I stayed at The Garden of Eden, I had not experienced all that a resort had to offer.

The location is secluded and private with views to die for. Every morning I would sit on the deck extension adjacent to the restaurant with my coffee, johnny cake, and fresh fruit and stare out over the water and drift a million miles away. Whether you can stay three days or a week or two weeks, you will leave wanting more and you will return to your life with The Garden of Eden burned into your memory forever.

The food is excellent and the selection varied. The first night Magali prepared the most perfectly seasoned and cooked Tuna I have ever experienced. And I don’t mean eaten, I mean experienced. Were it not for the steak and lobster and other offerings, I could have easily eaten the Tuna every night and not been disappointed.

The service is exactly what you want it to be, either as little or as much as you want. Bob and Helena are remarkable and even got my sense of humor. Unusual. With Woody, the Toucan and Malo, the dog, you will become part of The Garden of Eden family.

There are numerous activities both at the resort and nearby. World class diving and snorkeling are within easy reach. The resort has its own kayaks and pool table and can arrange private boat excursions to nearby islands.

Bocas Town is like Key West on steroids. As a matter of fact, I think when Key West got too civilized and touristy, all the characters, including Bob and Helena, came to Bocas. The night life is exciting and eclectic and if you can tear yourself away from Magali’s cooking, there is varied dining fare there as well.

The most difficult thing about writing a review of The Garden of Eden is that it is not possible to think of anything negative. It all seems to be surreal and unrealistic. The only way you will be able to appreciate this review is to experience The Garden of Eden for yourself.

Room Tip: Take the suite, you won't regret it

The way I rate a place is, would I go back and then would I recommend going there. All I can say is YOU have to go to this paridise!!! Woody is amazing, Malo is a godsent! Oh then there are the owners, I hope to say that they are my friends! This because they make you feel at home! Do you need privacy or a good conversation, Bob and Helena just know! I just don't have words to describe the beauty of their Island and all the extras they offer, like amazing food, drink and conversation. You just have to go! I can't wait to return. I have told friends to go and they will be there soon. I hope to be there soon too! This is a small place on EARTH you must experience! You will be glad you did!

Room Tip: what do you need? They will provide!
