It is said it has an interesting collection, but it is closed during weekends.......!
So on Fridays and Saturdays...........while Erbik likes to promote itself as a touristic attraction...!
Nearby is a site of an old settlement from around 5,000 years ago, so I visited there, not so interesting because holes are filled with trash.
At entrance information is in Arabic, so could not read it.

The museum closes on Fridays, Saturdays and national holidays so check before you go.Nothing to compare with European museums but it is still good to visit. I spent 90 minutes there looking at items from the Syriac heritage: clothes, personal items , documents, hand made items and much more. I was particularly impressed with the clothing collections from various regions. The mannequins are in pathetic shape but that should not deter you from enjoying. A lot of efforts from local people helped in collecting those items. Excellent museum comparing to Erbil civilization museum. No tickets...it's free!

While the museum is only small it is full of ancient artifacts. Look out for the 'egg shaped' burial casket for a baby. At the back of the museum is an archaeological site that is still being worked.

The first of its kind in the region, this museum has an interesting collection of photographs, traditional clothing, and other cultural items belonging to the Syriac people--one of the oldest civilizations in the world! what a wonderful initiative, everyone should visit if passing through Erbil. It could use a few more English based explanations on the history of the Syriacs as an introduction to what visitors are actually looking at. Very nicely organized! Very impressive.
