The Glenelg Public House
Ranked #3 of 114 Restaurants in Mermaid Beach
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$11 - US$28
Description: Welcome to The Glenelg Public House. ‘Public House’ was the original term for what we now all refer to as ‘The Pub’. A public house was just that; a house made public, offering food, drink and respite to the local community. A very simple and welcoming concept that we would like you to experience every time you come to dine with us. With this in mind, we source all of our produce with another simple principle at heart; the best we can find, prepared with minimal interruption and brought to your table at a price that can be enjoyed everyday. Our menu is steak-focused, using the World’s best beef, which is grown right here in our backyard. We have a seasonal selection of starters and sides and our menu is subject to regular change. We offer a range of classic and new world sauces. The descriptions are short and to the point as we prefer to under promise and over deliver, allowing the food to do all of the talking. In terms of our bar, we like to support local businesses by stocking an array of provincial products, as well as offering quality overseas beers, wines and premium spirits. Our wine list features both Australian and International wines, giving us confidence in our belief that we have the perfect wine to match your meal. Our cocktail list, consisting of only the classics, follows our ethos of simple things, done very well!

Had steak and chicken wings - steak very soft and perfectly done. Chicken wings one of the best I've ever had. Loved the atmosphere and deco - warm feeling. Wood, leather ... fully licensed. Didn't have dessert - wish we had because looked fabulous - just too much food for main course. Prices reasonable for the quality food. Definately a must visit when in Gold Coast.

We dropped in here off the cuff due to a lucky chain of events on a quite night. We ordered 4 medium rare steaks which would have made it a bit of a challenge for the kitchen. There was a bit of variation on the final doneness, but the kids got theirs slightly more cooked, mine was on point and my partners was slightly on the rare side (but she was tempted to order a rare anyway). If the kids steaks were deliberate cooked that way that is pretty damn good attention to detail.

The staff were great, the service was personable and casually attentive. The meal took a little long to come out, you could get away with calling it relaxed dining.

The sides were great, loved the salad and the chips and pumpkin... biggest regret, wish we ordered more chips, they were a guilty pleasure. For a couple of bucks the sauces are worth getting even if it doesn't suit the steak just to dip chips into.

Trip advisor's 4.5 rating is an insult to this place, it should be 5.

Have been here twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner and both times were superb. The steak is something else, the sides are divine, the cocktails are delicious (my pick is the Butterfly Kiss) and the service is very attentive and friendly.
For lunch it's nice to sit outside and have a share board, and for date night, inside is atmospheric and romantic. While it's not cheap, it is very much worth what the price is, as I've been to places who charge just as much but don't even come close to delivering what they do.
