Long story short....Just book your stay here!!!

My husband and I did an overnight stay here and wished we stayed a few more days! Check in was pretty fast and efficient! I appreciate being told at check in everything that resort offers. Parking....free! That’s just so unheard of!

The room was super cute and comfortable! We were a short walk from the pool. We took full advantage of the pool, bar and snacks offered. I can’t complain whatsoever! The staff kept the areas clean, bartender was oh so kind, and it was just overall fun. Living through an extreme lockdown in Spain, this little getaway was much needed. We felt like we went on a vacation even though we live here. The food was great from snacks, dinner and breakfast. I wish a little more variety was offered for breakfast, but this is Spain so again, I really can’t complain.

As for covid, temperature checks were done prior to entering dining areas with sanitizer. I felt safe and comfortable being there during a pandemic. Kudos to the RIU Chiclana!!! I hope we will able to visit one last time but bring our daughter before we move!

Rather apprehensive at first of a 800 room hotel but once we arrived at the resort, it didn't feel too big at all. Checking in and out was very efficient, but then it was the end of September. There were plenty of sunbeds and lots of entertainment during the day and the evening entertainment of live music was very good. Hubby is not a huge fan of buffet food but the food was surprisingly good with good variety of freshly cooked food.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Riu returning home yesterday feeling quite sad.. Our usual hotel choice in this area is the Royal Hideaway next door which provides added luxuries that the Riu simply cannot. A
However as we were a family of 3 with our 2 year old son now we wanted to stay in a 2 Bedroom family room which the Royal Hideaway cannot offer not does it offer such great activities and pools/slides for children.

The Rui is very much a solid 4+☆ resort offering a superb selection of different cuisines in the restaurants and excellenk an abundance of anti bacteria gels
+ We eat 6 nights in the Main buffet. The food selection is vast and whilst can be viewed as repetitive in some areas I was very satisfied morning, lunchtime and dinner and was able to enjoy different selections of foods daily which was to my amazement seasoned and cooked perfectly.
+ Well equipped Gym
+ Games room was full of all types of games
+ Friendly staff
+ Incredible location with direct access to fabulous walks on the cliff tops

Improvements
- Drinks - The selection of juices including orange, apple, tropical, pineapple were dreadful and undrinkable. Too sweet, full of sugar and of no resemblance to the juice it is meant to be. No 100% juices available which is disappointing.
- Cocktails - Again terrible with no attention to deal in preparation. Simply poored from a pre made mixture into a blender and blended for less than 2 seconds with ice. Given the restrictive menu of cocktails i would expect better with the addition of possibly fresh fruit. For best Alcholic drinks it was best to stick with Beer or the Rose wine and mixers ie Gin and Tonic
- Unfortunately in our visit we came across indviduals or groups of guys who enjoyed smoking banned substances. This we recognise is not the hotel to blame.

Overall I arrived with hesitation and doubts but left with a smile.

I hope to visit again in the future

We visited for a third time in October following a two week stay in June, however, we didn’t leave a review as our previous post was so lengthy and we thought we had covered everything. Having just returned from a winter break to a Riu in Gran Canaria we felt we should come back to let people know just how great this hotel is in comparison to other hotels in the chain.

From the moment you enter the hotel complex you are welcomed by friendly staff who strive to offer the best service they possibly can, the rooms are the cleanest we have ever experienced, and the un-commercialised location offers a relaxing getaway and is a refreshing change to normal holiday destinations. The little shop on-site sells most products needed for the duration of your stay, and the bar is open 24/7. The hotel has the best entertainment team of any Riu we have visited, and we hope this doesn’t change as they are an asset to the chain and hotel.

Looking forward to our next visit in June 2020, another two weeks in our favourite place in Spain.

We stayed here in the beginning of June for a week and had a great time, we were even given an upgrade which was very appreciated! My partner had been here before and that's why we went as he said he loved it here, but he said it was much better this time! The food was good plenty to choose from and the staff were great and very welcoming, I would point out that if you need an iron you will be charged 20 euros for it (which you will get back) but keep a hold of your ticket!!
The hotel is on the beach, we didn't spend too much time there though as it was very windy. 10 min walk to the local supermarket and approx 15 min drive to the main shops. 40 mins drive to Gibraltar which we also did.
Would definitely go back to this hotel.
