We travelled to Shenjiamen during the May National Holiday so this was one of the few hotels left with reasonable prices. In the slow season, I'm sure other hotels would be better value for money.
The Mingdu Hotel is a little shabby. The carpet in our room definitely needed a steam clean. The toilet also had some niggling plumbing issues that plague hotel rooms in China. Otherwise, the room is clean and standard in design. A free computer with Internet connection was provided.
The hotel has two major pluses. Firstly, the location is excellent for those who arrive by bus or plan to visit Taohuadao (Peach Blossom Island). It is a ten minute walk from the hotel to the Shenjiamen Bus Station and a twenty minute walk to the ferry pier for Peach Blossom Island. It is a ten minute taxi ride to the ferry pier for Putuoshan. There is also a KFC and a Taiwanese-style coffee shop within walking distance.
The hotel service is excellent. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable about local tourism sites. Ferries for the various islands leave from different piers so a cooperative reception desk makes sightseeing much easier.
We had an interesting view of a harbour area from our room and at night we could see the lights of the Zhujiajian Island bridge. The Mingdu Hotel is not luxurious but it offers a good location and service for a moderate price.
