Had a very pleasant lunch, one very wet stormy day in January. We had a window seat and enjoyed watching the waves crash on the rocks. Food was nicely cooked and well presented. The staff were helpful and attentive. I erred on the side of caution and went for the fish and chips. All in all a good value place to eat, in an area which is unfortunately lacking in decent places to have a nice lunch. I would imagine that in the summer this place gets very busy.

The bayview overlooks the beautiful bay of Portballintrae. The village is full of very friendly people and the hotel is at the centre of all the local activities. The staff are extremely friendly and really try to assist and make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are clean, and the bar and restaurant offers great atmosphere overlooking the bay.

We stayed here on 30 December 2011 during a trip to the North Antrim coast with friends. The rooms were good and very clean. We had dinner in the restaurant, a good meal. Afterwards we were just going to have one drink in the bar, however, as there was a wonderful musician playing the guitar and singing, we stayed until he left!

Having eaten in the Bayview a few times during the summer months, and having enjoyed it very much, we decided to book a table on New Year's Day evening as a treat.

I really could not complain about the food. Other reviewers have commented on the waiting time, and it is true that it does take a while to come out of the kitchen. That said, I would rather wait a little longer for food which is cooked from fresh. As ever the food was cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed a dessert which was also lovely.

A couple of minor gripes - during the summer months there seemed to be a little more choice on the menu (burgers etc), along with a super 'special' menu. Slightly disappointed that this menu was not available. Secondly it would have been nice to be offered a window seat - these tables seem to be reserved, though we had finished our meal before anyone was seated there. Finally as others have commented, some of the staff are 'just about' pleasant - not as warm and friendly as they maybe could be. The guys working on the bar were extremely friendly and chatty.

All things considered we would certainly return, the food really is excellent. However I don't feel that I would travel especially to dine there as we did on this occasion.

Stayed for a very good value £70 for 2 nights B&B. Room was great as was the food. The reception staff were very friendly. Only gripe is the time it takes for service. We arrived at our pre booked table at 7.30pm. Waited 45 minutes for our starter. The restaurant manageress however was apologetic. Would stay again on a special offer. Wouldn't stay at normal rates as I find the nearby Causeway Hotel is also good. I would recommend Bayview as it was very relaxing.

Room Tip: Some of the front rooms are 320 extra for the view. However, the view from the rear rooms is also great.

Dear James S, thank-you for taking time to compose a good review about Bayview Hotel. I do apologise about the time it took to get your starter.
Food at Bayview is always cooked from fresh, by fully qualified Chefs, to ensure taste and quality, therefore taking a little longer. Obviously from taking your order to processing in the kitchen is also an added time factor. On very busy nights most people understand this and are prepared to wait a little longer for quality food, however 45 minutes seems a little bit too long to wait. I am currently investigating the matter and discussing ways, other than pre-cooking food,
to shorten waiting times during busy periods.
Our winter package at present for Superior rooms with guaranteed sea views is very reasonably priced at £119.00 pps midweek 2 nights B&B including an evening meal! This also includes Free WI-FI throughout the Hotel and Free entertainment at weekends.
Again many thanks for composing a favourable review and recommending Bayview,. Meanwhile have a wonderful 2012, we look forward to welcoming you back to Bayview,
Kind Regards, Trevor and the Team @ Bayview
