No doubt about it the location of the Bayview is superb. The hotel staff, food and bar area I could not fault. I am aware that the hotel is family run and they are striving to update and modernise ( the bar/restaurant area a fine example), however the rooms do appear to be getting dated and an investment of new beds, soft furnishings (please get rid of the blankets and replace with comfy duvets!) and modernise the bathrooms would then make it a perfect place to stay. That cost! and maybe its on the 'to do' list.

Dear Babs, thank you so much for your kind comments and suggestions on TA. We are presently working on a programme of complete refurbishment of our bedrooms and some other areas of the Hotel, hopefully all will be completed before the summer months and your next visit. We look forward to welcoming you back to Bayview, have lots of enjoyable breaks, many thanks, Trevor and the team at BAyview.

Had a very pleasant lunch, one very wet stormy day in January. We had a window seat and enjoyed watching the waves crash on the rocks. Food was nicely cooked and well presented. The staff were helpful and attentive. I erred on the side of caution and went for the fish and chips. All in all a good value place to eat, in an area which is unfortunately lacking in decent places to have a nice lunch. I would imagine that in the summer this place gets very busy.

The bayview overlooks the beautiful bay of Portballintrae. The village is full of very friendly people and the hotel is at the centre of all the local activities. The staff are extremely friendly and really try to assist and make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are clean, and the bar and restaurant offers great atmosphere overlooking the bay.

We stayed here on 30 December 2011 during a trip to the North Antrim coast with friends. The rooms were good and very clean. We had dinner in the restaurant, a good meal. Afterwards we were just going to have one drink in the bar, however, as there was a wonderful musician playing the guitar and singing, we stayed until he left!

Having eaten in the Bayview a few times during the summer months, and having enjoyed it very much, we decided to book a table on New Year's Day evening as a treat.

I really could not complain about the food. Other reviewers have commented on the waiting time, and it is true that it does take a while to come out of the kitchen. That said, I would rather wait a little longer for food which is cooked from fresh. As ever the food was cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed a dessert which was also lovely.

A couple of minor gripes - during the summer months there seemed to be a little more choice on the menu (burgers etc), along with a super 'special' menu. Slightly disappointed that this menu was not available. Secondly it would have been nice to be offered a window seat - these tables seem to be reserved, though we had finished our meal before anyone was seated there. Finally as others have commented, some of the staff are 'just about' pleasant - not as warm and friendly as they maybe could be. The guys working on the bar were extremely friendly and chatty.

All things considered we would certainly return, the food really is excellent. However I don't feel that I would travel especially to dine there as we did on this occasion.
