“Simply stunning”

Reviewed 21 May 2017

We drove through this park from Waitomo and the views here are spectacular. The only complaint, if it is one, is the lack of places to stop and take pictures of the awesome sights. It's criminal to have these beautiful sights and no place to record them. Other than that I was spellbpund at all the hidden valleys, rising mountains and amazing tree ferns.

Different type of walks. Kauri trees are a must see. Stop at the DOC center which is also a nice spot for picnic.

The Coromandel Forest Park is a beautiful part of New Zealand and we travelled around by car and on foot. We were lucky to have good weather when we visited to appreciate such a lovely place with many stunning views , there are some narrow and winding roads on the peninsula but nothing untoward. A worthwhile place to visit in NZ

Not many people from NZ that I know, have been up here..to the top of the Coromandel and where the roads stop. We came across numerous campers and hikers..unfortunately no NZers, who were all admiring and very complimentary of this area. Great trees, beaches of sand and then large boulders, followed by shingle beaches, dot this area. Of note was that the toilets throughout this area were functional and clean, and rubbish was minimal, which is a real credit to whoever looks after this area. The place is very pristine and unspoilt and one can see why advocates for protection of this landscape are so vocal. It is a lovely and wonderful place. No sealed roads up this way and a head for heights for some of the views is needed:-)

The north of the Coromandel Peninsula is fantastic for walking and taking in stunning views & natural surrounds. Whether you're heading up the west or east side of the peninsula, stop for a good coffee & food at the cafe on the right at the north end of Colville. Friendly lady who makes great jams. The walk from Stony Bay is stunning. Note the roads are slow, & always take extra clothes & food & water as weather can change quickly.
