As we arrived outside the hotel we were greeted by scaffolding covering the front of the building. We had pre- booked our three night stay at a non-refundable exorbitant £388 plus £21 parking fee. The £200 security deposit was waived as Mike the manager considered we were unlikely to trash the room! After lugging our cases up several flights of stairs as there was no lift, we entered our room, which was disappointing to say the least! We couldn't have trashed it's condition if we tried! The carpets were filthy as were the windows, one also had a broken sash and another was padlocked. The bathroom was very shoddy as was the whole room. The TV remote was missing which just added to the sub-standard accommodation. All of this for approximately £133 per night exclusive of breakfast! Even though renovations are being carried out to this very outdated hotel, the fees charged should reflect the current standard of the room and not as per a top quality hotel. Our stay was the most expensive of our recent UK trip and by far the worst room of all. The only redeeming factor was the location, but that doesn't compensate for the dread of returning to the room!

Time to get real - if you thought the rate to be "exorbitant" then why make the booking in the first place? Our website is very clear about the important external works in progress and we are delighted that this project, costing over £300k [well over five hundred thousand AUD] is in course. Once complete we can make further improvements to the interior

To be clear, hotels operate in a highly transparent and competitive marketplace where pricing is dynamic and sensitive to fluctuations in demand; it therefore follows if one picks a weekend where there are hundreds of thousands of extra visitors to the City supply will be severely constrained

We paid £64 per double room per night. Which is very reasonable for the area. We stayed Wednesday & Thursday. It is on street car parking at £7 per day, available from the hotel. It's free from 8pm-9am. Or there is a machine on the street that's £1 an hour. (If you know a local resident, who lives in Zone N, they can get you a permit at £4 per day).
The rooms are spacious, very clean with comfy beds. Tea & coffee facilities in the rooms. Hair/shower gel & soap provided. Hairdryers available from reception.
There is a limited bar in the hotel, we had a gin and tonic & a JD & Coke, it came to £10.60. The hotel has no restaurant. There are plenty of nearby restaurants though and a Tesco. It's about a 30 minute walk along the seafront to Brighton or you can catch a bus at the top of the road for £5 return.
A good location, good value. Would definitely stay again.

Thank you so much for this lovely review which has given the hotel a welcome boost. You were delightful guests and we appreciate your making the effort to travel from Leicester

The Langfords strives to offer value for money accommodation in a great location. It is a traditional seaside hotel however and it is important for guests to book a hotel that will meet their particular needs

Renewed thanks for your custom and kind words

Of course our hard working housekeeping team have been made truly aghast by this review; our regulars have also been incensed. not least with trite references to long forgotten BBC sitcoms

It is clear that the Langfords was never going to pass muster for these particular guests and verily, given the current unprecedented heatwave, everywhere is too hot. The hotel is not air conditioned, nowhere does it state it is and nowhere does it state fans are provided, which they are not. Langfords aims to deliver straightforward, value for money, seaside accommodation in a traditional setting with the twist of fibre enabled free WIFI

Booked last min to support friends playing in a local bowls competition. Stayed 5 nights in a single room during the recent hot spell. Room & en suite was clean, Bed was comfy, No noise at night & Staff were friendly. At the end of the day I needed a bed & shower. Not bothered about scaffolding round the Hotel, No breakfast in the morning or lack of parking but a fan or air con in the room would be nice. Good Pubs & restaurants nearby. 30 min walk along the seafront to the pier was nice but there is a frequent bus service If you prefer. Would I stay here again ?. Yes.

Thank you for this no-nonsense review; we are glad the Langfords could be there for you - hopefully your friend won through with their bowls. As you have kindly observed the hotel is currently under-going a £300,000 external refurbishment which shows how seriously we are taking matters. When that project completes, further works will be undertaken inside. I am afraid that will not however extend to air-conditioning given the impact on such an august building and the need to balance returns with being able to offer great prices

We appreciate you would consider staying again; it means a great deal

Hotel nice and clean, comfortable bed and on suite facilities BUT ran out of car park permits on the day of arrival forcing us to waste at least four hours and no help from the receptionist on duty plus he couldn’t speak English very well which made the matter more frustrating!!

We really appreciate this positive review and thank you for staying. By equal measure we were sorry to inconvenience you over the parking as a surge in demand caused us to run out of vouchers in the very short term. Action has been taken to ensure no repetition and thank you for raising the matter

Hopefully we can see you back from Cheshire before too long
