perfectly situated in the tuscan countryside, this hotel is a job well done. the reason i say this is because this is a 11th century monastery that has been converted into a hotel. the rooms are spacious, the spa is world class. and for the food - gordan ramsey has a restaurant, need i say any further. surrounded by spectacular tuscan countryside this is as romantic as it gets. go wine tasting and eat some fabulous meals in siena and florence. highly recommended

It provides an unique experience as you can feel out of the routine of a busy life and enjoy each detail of the hotel. There you are envolved with the particular architeture, a great and intriguing energy from the essence a Monastery. The kindness and the attention of everyone working there, specially from Alessandro Pilotti will be always on my mind.

As you approach you see a medieval Tuscan village complete with vineyards, olives and a fabulous monastery. We looked at two rooms and both choices were superb. Large, airy and comfortable. A bottle or red and white local wines was delivered from Signore Prevosti. Take time to walk the vineyards and grounds and bring a big glass of wine with you. The pools and spa are beautifully hidden and very private. The Gordon Ramsay restaurant was not open, but I am not a big fan anyway. What was open was the Cantina - a great wine cellar restaurant where the steps down are lit by candles. Just sitting and having a glass of wine in this room was enough. The food was great, the service delightful and fun. Anyone who writes they did not enjoy this experience brought it on themselves. Castel Monastero is beyond 5 star. Quiet and private. Beautifully restored and appointed. Just minutes from Sienna and less than an hour to Firenze. Our big disappointment? We only had one night.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms.

Just spent a magical week at Castel Monastero. A beautifully renovated monastery in the heart of Chianti , close to Siena. The wonderful facilities and glorious grounds were made even better by the friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff, from the General Manager down. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel really special. We had a beautiful room in the grounds overlooking the vineyard and countryside.... Light and spacious.
Breakfast in the courtyard was amazing. As we ate in the hotel every night, they prepared different meals for us using the most delicious local produce and the friendly cantina staff helped us select fabulous wines.
We can't wait to return and try the new restaurant which is about to be launched.
Thoroughly recommend this hotel .

5 years ago September 2007 My husband and I stayed at this charming monastery village in the Tuscan hills for 2 weeks. We had a small but lovely apartment overlooking the nearby pools, castle and countryside, our own little terrace to sit and enjoy. We dined every night on delicious local food cooked with love and joy by a local chef who spoke little English but we got by. The wine was as delicious as the food, served to us by Andrea, who brightened each evening with his humour. The service was superb and the place divine. We were even invited to attend a wedding party in the grounds on our second night. We are horrified at what has been done to this gem of Tuscany. It cost us less that £1800 for the 2 weeks and left us with lasting memories.

Room Tip: Well as you know it has all changed since we were there.
