If you'd like to experience time travel, be sure to visit Landhaus Schaaf. This dated "hotel" is stuck somewhere in the 80's. But the 80's have wifi. The hotel/restaurant is a mishmash of corridors, furniture, buildings in buildings, ancient rooms and one scary looking mannequin at the reception. In the double rooms you'll find two mattresses, one soft, one hard. Management couldn't choose. The soft mattress sucks. The vent in the bathroom makes an awful lot of noise. The rooms are all non-smoking, but I highly suspect guests regularly smoke (judging by the smell and all the stumps on the roofs below the windows). The hotel staff is friendly and the breakfast adequate. That however doesn't make up for the dated lodgings.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here.

2 night stop on business trip, good Wi-Fi. Typical family run German Hotel. Rooms are basic but clean. Food was fantastic for both breakfast but especially main meals (try the steak). Location not ideal unless you have transport, would be bit of a walk into Runkel itself.

About 8 years ago I worked as a paddling guide on the Lahn River which flows through Runkel. Most of the trips involved camping...but occasionally patrons would splurge. Eating here was a treat, especially after a tough day of paddling. The fare German cuisine...but the cliffside setting above Lahn makes this location stand out. I understand two feuding brothers resided in Schloss Schadeck & Burg Runkel...set across the Lahn from one another. A paddle from Weilburg to Runkle or Limburg is well worth it. (I would highly recommend Lahntours esp. on a week day with nice weather. )
