Museum telling the history of Lotta-women in the war. Overall very good exhibition, but maybe a bit too "sterile" and lifeless
We had a lecture booked for our visit, and this was very educational. The guide gave a thorough presentation of the Lotta organisation’s history, and with this in mind our walk through the museum got a lot more interesting. What a group of women this was! We ended our stay with a visit in the museum cafe.
Lotta menas female wartime volunteers in many jobs like nursing, air controll, feeding soliders and all other possible jobs also in front line.
We learnt a great deal about the major work done by Finnish women in social care and wartime auxiliary capacities in 20th century. Well explained story of the Lotta Svard movement and its national and international significance. Well worth a visit. Good English translations of all details (apart from video/audio). Very good café with great range of cakes!
Visited with a Finnish friend. It is a beautiful setting on Lake Tuusala but you will need transport.Beautifully laid out museum showing the work done by woman during the wars It was laid out along the lines of a military service and really combined the work of the UK Land Army,Red Cross,WRVS alongside Nursing,Childcare,Sewing Clothing, and Catering with Fire Watch and Plane Spotting for bombing raids.
Well documented, in English too and the staff are very helpful.
Great cafe ,enjoyed lunch and they have cakes and Pastries too and a small gift shop.
Beautifully clean, mobility friendly.
The scenery and the lake itself are well worth a visit.
Lotta Svärd Museum is owned by Lotta Svärd Foundation. It is located in Tuusula around 30 km from Helsinki Center. Easiest to go by own car. It is composed of the museum, museum shop and a cafe. Really worthwhile to visit. The museum is small but a lot of opportunity to use all your senses. Nice surroundings.
In the Tuusulajärvi area and along the old road there are several interesting destinations to visit like Ainola (Sibelius), Ahola (Juhani Aho, Venny Soldan-Brofelt), Halosenniemi (Halonen), Erkkola etc.
