A rather unlikely spot to turn up at, in my case it was more of a coincidence that I ended up at Gustavelund; a need to be in the area, and the normal ones I use unsvailable for the night. Some people surely would consider Tuusula to be kind of far away, but in honesty, not much more than half an hour from central Helsinki - you will need to travel by car, of course. The airport, I guess can be reached in about 15 mins on a good day. Location almost discussed, but one more thing: Gustavelund is situated very beautifully on Lake Tuusula, and the lake drive surely would be a nice pastime in the summertime. The homes of celebrities like Sibelius, and quite a few authors and artists from days gone are located along the lake drive, all easily reachable by bike for example, which are kept avsilable to guests by the hotel. The hotel the. A huge buildin complex, from the sixties I would guess, but refurbished and modernized, representing rather typical Finnish architecture from those days. Stylish in a way, and a pleasant surprise, almost unexpected. The service at reception and the restaurant, where they serve a truly excellent breakfast, included in the room price, is impeccable. The room they gave me was small-ish, but very nicely decorated, recently refurbished and in a very good condition. Nothing really to moan about there, except that it was rather cold... all in all, I might happily recommend Gustavelund as a most worthwile alternative, at a very decent rate considering the quality. But remember: you need a car to get here.
