Bermuda Beach Resort

We stayed at Bermuda Beach in September 2017 and it was awesome. We looked at the usual tourist hot spots but settled on Sipalay, specifically Sugar Beach area after local recommendations. We also settled on Bermuda Beach based on the many positive reports on this site and the look of the place... right on the beach with nice looking rooms. We rented a bungalow directly on the beach front and it lived up to all our expectations from the photos. The experience from the very 1st e-mail contact with Francis the owner to the boat ride to take us home was outstanding. We cannot speak highly enough of Francis the owner and his wonderful wife Zinaida. The fantastic staff who simply looked after our every wish with a smile and happy demina, Mylen, Junior, Raymond, Alberto and the chef Regina who’s food was outstanding. We were made to feel like one of the family, a very special atmosphere that you could not get in a big resort. Sure it’s a trek and off the beaten path but it’s absolutely worth it. Francis helped us with the transfers from Bacolod City recommending a very safe driver. The drive took around 3,5 hours but the price for a private mini van was very reasonable, you could also take the bus if you are on more of a budget. Bermuda Beach staff kept the beach very clean raking and picking up leaves almost daily. It was the cleanest beach front of all resorts, a credit to the attention to detail. We simply wanted to relax from the high speed environment we live in, boy did we get exactly that. Sitting on the beach watching the world go by, reading, relaxing as we pretty much had the Beach to ourselves! It was nice to take a walk along the beach and pop in to the other resorts for a bit of liquid refreshment or a bite to eat, everywhere welcomed us. Prices are extremely reasonable and much more local rate than tourist rate for food and drink, you won’t spend a fortune to have an awesome time! The food at Bermuda Beach is all cooked on site with fresh ingredients / produce. Everything from the local dishes to the pasta options are fantastic, you will not fail to find something you like to a very high quality and piping hot when served. Francis & Zinaida, you live in paradise, don’t change a single thing, you are so kind and welcoming, your formula is spot on! Mylen you took care of us so well and we appreciate everything you did to make our stay truly memorable. Regina, your food is simply awesome from the home made bread to the Kinilaw with the fresh Dorado to the pasta, we always looked forward to meal times. Alberto, thanks our room was always spotlessly clean and the beach front is an absolute credit to you. Junior & Raymond, from the moment you transferred us on the boat to taking us home through the mangroves you looked after us so well and didn’t let us lift a finger. Would we recommend this place.... HELL YES..... Will we return.... HELL YES. Don’t hesitate to book if you’re looking for a relaxing beach holiday, in an unspoilt, uncommercialised paradise.... you will not be disappointed.

It is unusual to find in the Philippines places offering at affordable price good accommodation and good food. Bermuda Beach resort is among those.
We stayed there for the Holy Week. The resort is family run and this give you a sense of welcoming vibe, the position is very good in the middle of a 1 km beach. The beach is very clean and the water is clear and very safe at both high and low tide which makes the place perfect for family. The food as I said is excellent at least the international part of the menu and this is great asset. Few activities can be organized (apparently the snorkeling to the wreck is reccomendable) but we just relaxed for 6 days enjoying the soft sand and the amicable company of the owners and their family. Last but not least the place offers massage. If you want to experience a more therapeutic than relaxing one ask for Kaleb and you will not be disappointed. The place is the perfect one to heal your soul and your body.

Sugar Beach is delightfully remote, cut off as it is by the Nauhang River. We spent three nights at Bermuda Beach in an air conditioned room, which was most welcome as it was very hot whilst we were there. The room was simply furnished, with space to put things down and a sitting out area outside. Luckily we had no immediate neighbours so did not feel at all cramped. The gardens are very pretty, including the ducks and their house by the duck pond.
Swimming off the beach was excellent, the water clear and a bit lively, with enough depth to be enjoyable at high and low tides, which is not always the case in the Philippines. The sand is pale, even if it isn't talcum powder quality. Comfortable loungers are provided. Sadly, the sea was too rough for a snorkelling trip whilst we were there. However, the long beach was a delight for walking and watching the locals walk between villages.
Food was good, particularly the fruit salad at breakfast and the prawns, but the adobo and 'fish special' were over-salty for us. Evening drinks were served with aplomb by Francis, particularly the pastis.
Arriving at Bermuda Beach is half the fun. For us it was a five and a half hour bus ride from Bacolod followed by a short bangka ride from Sipilay Beach to Sugar Beach. Returning, the tide and swell were not so favourable so we had the walk along the beach, the river crossing and bone-shaking tricycle ride into Sipilay.

It is not easy getting to this place. Once in Manila, it takes a full day’s journey by plane, car and boat.

The Bermuda Beach Resort will offer you nice and simple accommodation in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The host, Mr. Francis and his sweet Philippine wife are very agreeable persons whom, together with their nice staff, will do their best to make you feel welcome and comfortable. At dinnertime, Francis will stroll around and chat with the guests in his charming Maurice Chevalier accent (this may mean something to the more mature readers).

The food is good and especially the “Dorado” must not be missed when available (fresh, raw, citrus-marinated fish).

To enjoy this place and the surroundings fully, you should come with the right expectations and the right attitude. Do not expect the usual tourist facilities and entertainment like room service, discos, beach parties and nightlife in general. Be prepared to enjoy the simple things, the sea, the sky and the beach. Here you are close to the tropical nature, so you may not always be alone in your room. I had two small, yellow lizards regularly visiting my room, a couple of friendly little guys.

A piece of practical information: As of January 1st this year the Landbank ATM in Sipalay City accepts foreign credit cards (at least Visa), so if you run low on cash you can refill there (limit is PHP 10.000 per day). Either rent a boat directly from Sugar Beach or go to the south end of the beach and get ferried over the small bay by outrigger canoe. From there you can either go by tricycle to the small city or walk along the beach (45-50 minutes). The tricycle trip is a funny experience. The first part is on a narrow, bumpy dirt road through the forest and crossing small wooden bridges before getting to the paved road. The tricycle will stop and pick up local passengers along the road, and by the time we reached the city, we were eight people cramped together. Ask Francis about the details of the route.

I spent five nice and relaxing days here with diving and lazing, before moving on with my journey, and I would gladly have stayed longer.

I took the van from Bacolod, 3 hours, arrived early morning, I found a good swedish book in the common area, I had breakfast and than I didn't move myself from the beach and the lovely hammock for two days. Short stay but so worth it if you´re in the island of Negros. Just a fantastic calm paradise if you want to hide yourself from the rest of the stressful world. Here you find out you really don´t have much problems. Thanks for keeping the beach small scale, clean and beautiful!
