Great coffee, good service. Locals venue. Fresh food made to order. Interesting, quirky old building and outdoor dining.

“Hidden Gem - THE place for a perfect lunch - and best value in Oz!!”
Reviewed 23 January 2012

This is the quintessential gourmet cafe that's just waiting to be explored!!

Located on the site of an old corner store, with rustic, warm hardwood flooring and porches to match, you get the feeling of being welcomed home to a simpler, slow-cooked (and better tasting) time.

Often you'll be welcomed by the owner himself! A dutch gentlemen, he was in fact taking orders and working the till - I am impressed!! (no doubt he was doing this to avoid having to pay some knucklehead teenager way too much money to screw it up on Boxing Day...but that's another story about Australian and their ridiculous labor laws, for another time!)

As we hit the cafe about 10 minutes prior to a passing summer thunderstorm and many more people piled in to both avoid and admire the downpour, I got the sense of community, like we were all trapped in someone's warm summer daydream. the owner & staff, made room, cleared and moved tables while smiling and saying G'day to all!

The menu is diverse and yet simple, I guess you might say eclectic?

My wife had a curry laksa, which was piping hot (perfect for the cool temps brought on by the storm) and it was LOADED with huge Prawns (maybe 8 or 9 of them)! And it was almost as good as my peri-peri chicken burger, with a special dressing, toasted onion roll (fresh made) and tons of veggies, shredded carrot and beet root (which I normally hate). I ordered this because the owner said it was his favorite and MAN, it was THE best thing I ate (in a restaurant, on a menu...) while I was in Oz (wink-wink)!

And we had coffee and desert and all-you-can-drink FREE cold mountain water - a rarity, when they're charging $4.50 at the petrol station for a bottle! and the whole meal was less than $30 - a real steal!

I can't wait to return and recommend you visit if you're anywhere within an hour's drive - it's totally worth it!

“The Hub of the Mountain”

Coffee great, and interesting range of food. The staff are fantastic. If locals are feeling lonely, they pop into "Spice" and they will run into someone they know. Eating either inside or out, a very casual, informal place to eat.
