After reading reviews about snorkeling here, my partner and I brought our gear to try it out after visiting Pointe de Chateaux on the far east side of the island. We got to the beach around 430 and set up near one of the trees. Even though the water is shallow and calm, there was too much sand to see many fish near the coral. Perhaps we should try earlier in the day, or another edge of the beach.
We have tried this beach as we rented an apartment in the area and we found it to be the best combination of sand, water, snorkeling and calm for our family so we used it as the main beach during our stay.
Initially not impressed with the size I realized the beach is not very busy except week ends of course. If you come early morning you will park very close to the beach itself for afternoon better consider leaving your car upper on the street. Count the road to beach is pretty steep.
The sand stripe is not very large but its pretty clean and there are trees you can use for shadow. The waters are good for swimming and best you can snorkel as there is plenty of fish in the water grass and coral spots just few meters away from shore. We didn't use water shoes but we have seen sea urchins so careful where you step.
If you are there stay for the sun set, the views are just magnificent.
Large iguanas come on this beach to cool too so you might get to see one.
This is also a spot for surfers but the water break is much further from the shore so this kind of separates them from those who simply look for a calm swimming spot.
We checked out this sweet little cove beach late one afternoon, and found it beautiful, if less sandy than some others, but offers a good amount of shade. The water is gorgeous, but is limited for swimming by a fair amount of coral reef. Surfers seemed to be enjoying the break. There are showers and clean bathrooms available. and a little restaurant. Parking is tight; there are a few spots in a little lot and the rest of the parking is on the steep street leading down to the beach. I think it's worth checking out if you are in the area.
Quiet and peaceful beach with plenty of trees under which you can set up a hammock or bring a towel to relax and read a book. Close by is a conveniently located restaurant where you can buy food or buy a beer to bring to your set up place in the beach. There are also kiosks if you want to plan a picnic with your friends and a park surrounding the beach if you feel like walking and exploring the tropical forest and take advantage of other views from the top of a canyon. Loved it!
Near to Le Gosier you will find this small palmtree sandbeach. It is a safe beach (no criminality) in a small bay. Access is easy.
Nice area....peaceful. Not easy to find a parking spot but worth the effort. There are two beaches....one is more sandy but no shade as the other is shadier but less sand.
You will see iguanas there. Quaint area.
