We realise the hotel was a 3 star and having been to several Caribbean islands knew what to expect but ...I
The welcome at the hotel after travelling for almost a day was poor and there was certainly no welcome drink. The hotel is very dated and needs a lot of tlc, the bedroom is a little better, the bathrooms very dated.
On our 3rd day we were told we had to move rooms, which we did not want to do because we had unpacked etc. It was not an option. We re-packed and went to reception as they had called our friends to say the room was ready. Ours wasn't the older receptionist (short hair and posh glasses) was very unpleasant and took great delight in telling us we had to wait until 3pm. There was no offer of assistance, a trolley an apology or anything for the fact a day of our holiday had been lost because of this move. Her attitude was appalling, she was an ace at the rolling her eyes, ignoring our presence at the counter and saying no to us. We did our best to avoid her if we needed anything.
The new rooms were ok, pool and beach facing. However, the hotel had an event on a Friday evening and it was very loud even with the doors shut. The decked area was ok, in very poor condition and gave way in parts, see pic, not very good for a 1st floor room!! The air .con in the room was rubbish, it did very little to cool it even though it was on full.
The food was adequate with a reasonable choice. The restaurant was very hot and not air conditioned. On the all.inclusive you can only use this restaurant. At the weekend if there's an event go early because when the food runs out it is not replenished, even with alternatives. Also they start removing food before closing and it is well and truly "ferme" no chance of a last minute snack.
The drinks are ok from the bar but they often run out is or the beer goes off, you cannot have bottled beer on the all incl as an alternative unless you pay. Lena and Catherine were lovely to us.
The pool is ok. But the foot pool that you are forced to walk through has tiles missing, then you are into a decked area and risk life and limb. The decking gets hot, it is rotting, uneven, wobbly, with protruding screws all over the place. It is very unsafe especially for children. It needs replacing desperately.
The beach, now here's a story .... It is gravelly and beach shoes are required. It is a public beach and easily accessible. The sunbeds are utter trash - broken and uncomfortable.
Almost every day a lady appears clearly she is unwell, but often drunk. She ensconces herself on a sunbed and loves a parasol, she often gets one because people move away from her. She strips off most of her clothes, she sleeps, unpacks and repack her bags, cries, wails, shouts, and urinates whilst sat on the sunbed,. Not what you want on a relaxing day at the beach.
Then there's a young man who thinks it's a good idea to parade up and down the beach exposing himself. We did ask the security to attend, they did and he went after sticking two fingers up at us. But he came back and continued to do so in a regular basis. He was known to the hotel as we were asked if he wore odd socks. He did. They did not involve the police. It was very unnerving for us, even though our husband's were with us and certainly a concern for younger women on their own or families.
We accept it is a public beach, but surely the hotel have a duty of care to its guests and a security presence on a regular basis might have discouraged these characters. Who might I add, went to the bar for drinks and water and went through the reception area.
The stand out person for us was Lawrence, she assisted us find an English speaking guide, was very helpful during our stay and arranged for us to keep our room on until 3pm, having empathy for our long journey home, unlike the dragon of a receptionist who insisted we vacate at 12pm. If you need a hand she is the "go too" lady. Thank you Lawrence.
The hotel is distinctly lacking the Caribbean vibe that we go holiday for ....😢
