First off, I'd like to have given this a good review rather than average - as I felt it was good, but not very good. We also stayed when reception was closed but the stand-in receptionist did tell us this was due to the usual receptionist being hospitalised so you do have to cut them some slack.
Check in was fine - it was our first time in Guadeloupe so I was a bit surprised to be shown the bottled water stash in the kitchen, toilet and bathroom just in case the water was shut down - in fact it wasn't during our 7 day stay. I was also a bit surprised that the apartment had metal shutters at the front balcony (we were first floor) that we were told to shut at night and when we went out and also some manual shutters to the back doors.
My fault but when I'd booked, I hadn't realised I hadn't booked the room to be cleaned - so we had to dry towels ourselves on the balcony and ask a cleaner that we bumped into for more toilet roll - I mean surely the apartments could provide more than one roll! There wasn't anyone on reception at all save for the day after we checked in so we couldn't have asked reception to help with any problems. I've also never stayed anywhere that has a note asking you to clean the room before departure or pay for it to be cleaned - I'm not sure if something was lost in translation here and it just meant don't leave dirty dishes in the sink rather than imply they wanted you to do a proper deep clean of the room!
There were no dishcloths, no hairdryer and bizarrely, an iron but no ironing board - plus the shower only had 6 water jets (yes, I counted) working so despite it being hot every night, showering was a bit of a dribble of water!
On the plus sides - the view is amazing, the rooms are comfortable and were clean, tho they do look a little dated now, Wi-Fi was good and fast, the apartments are in a great location - a few minutes to the beach and also to the high street and it does have a lot more of a local feel to it than the resort we stayed in for our second week. The Friday night market is well worth a visit. Plus it is very reasonably priced.
In all, yes we are glad we stayed, we enjoyed our stay but there are a few glitches that could be easily sorted.
