Beautiful Hotel but Below Average Rooms

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 29 Dec 2023
The hotel is peaceful with its own beach, with free sun loungers, a water sports kiosk and beautiful views. The pool is small, but clean and very pretty, with comfortable sun loungers looking out over the sea and the wonderful views. All the communal areas of this hotel were well decorated and clean, it felt like a lovely resort.

The rooms were not in the same vein though, we had a room in the first building, it was very sparse, with a weird side balcony. We asked for extra pillows which came quickly, but should have asked for extra towels too, as they were tiny.
The curtains and throw pillows looked new, and certainly went some way to brighten the place up, but they need to go a step further to make it feel inviting and comfortable.

We were only there for 1 night, so didn't bother to complain, but the room wasn't really cleaned properly and the maid let herself in the next morning to catch me naked... i don't even know why she would be trying to come in, as we were checking out that day.

A small shop and a few restaurants were just a 2 min walk away and we enjoyed a nice meal and picked up some bits at the shop that opened late, it was very convenient.

I would consider staying here, if i planned to be out all day, either enjoying relaxing at the hotel pool / beach or out exploring, but not if i was spending any amount of time in the room.

Very poor overall service! Examples include a breakfast supervisor rude and loud, throwing chairs at the chicken! Or mid afternoon music blared to maximum volume in the restaurant, making guests flee; kayaks available but unable to use them beyond the small beach etc. A shame because the location and potential is good.

Management you need to get a grip on service.

Room tip: If you can abstract from the terrible service, the location is not bad.

Our stay here was the result of cashing in credit card travel points. The points program listing featured photos of the newest of the three buildings on site, the Zenitude Saruka. However our room was in the older building formerly known as The Clipper Hotel. The building has probably been battered by many storms and is missing some outer panels, but our room was in good shape and we had a splendid view out over the water. But that also meant we were kept up to midnight two out of five nights with unexpected loud live music from the luxury hotel next door. And oddly, numerous roosters (and hens) roam the grounds and make sure no one sleeps past pre-dawn. An excellent buffet breakfast was included, complete with endless espresso and always fresh omelettes. And the beach out front was so inviting (with lounge chairs included) we did not bother with the pool.

We tried the reasonably priced buffet dinner one night, and it was quite good. We also spent some time at the on-site Pelican Bar but they ran out of Gwada beer on the third night so we had to go elsewhere for locally made beer. However overall it was a good stay because we enjoyed the breakfasts and the beach out front with lounge chairs and towels included.

This property is quite dated and eroding gradually and not your ideal Beach vacation spot. However, if you get the right room with a nice view you can ignore everything else. The nature elements (like the beachfront padded with cute coconut trees, private coves, and a stunning sunset) make up for the aging buildings and bump the rating of this place Was a great value for money at the price we paid.

LOCATION: Lovely beachfront location

DINE + DRINK: Overpriced and poorly decorated beachfront bar/restaurant that you should avoid! The breakfast restaurant was a stunner and was a breakfast to remember with mindblowing views and beach vibes

ROOM: We stayed in Room 2511, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Lovely view of the ocean and the coves; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: OK cosmetics

FACILITIES: No Gym on site, and a very dated and unappealing pool!

SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all our needs with a smile. But the staff at the Beachfront bar were quite annoying and didnt seem to understand what attentive or polite service meant!

HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high-speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out a wide variety of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies, and entertainment, mostly in FRENCH language!

This hotel is a 2.5 stars at best.

The positives
- it is relatively close to the airport which costs about 30 euros one way.
- there are plenty of restaurants nearby within east walking distance that are very good.
- it does have a beach and small pool and was easy enough to get a chair.

The not so good
- this hotel is small. Whoever did the photography for their website is a genius at making it look bigger than it is.
- it is severely dated. If we were staying longer that 1.5 days I would have switched. The rooms are horrible.
- there is no hospitality, events, live music, nothing. If you’re looking for solitude this will give you that.
- food options are limited on site.
- be prepared for very little to no English. It makes it hard to navigate simply conversation but we did try on both ends. Would of helped tremendously if they had an English menu option.

Overall I will not be back. I found my time here less enjoyable than other islands and found there weren’t options to highlight what Guadeloupe has to offer.

Firstly this hotel complex is huge, I checked in at reception and was given very vague directions to the block I was situated in. Of which I got lost, in a resort like this there should be some sort of map or better signage to find your room failing that if someone cant understand your directions due to poor english then get off you bottom and show me. Anyway I found it.... the rooms are extremely basic, there is no headboard on the bed there are no tea and coffee making facilities (i know this is a very british thing but still in other countries they have cottoned onto this idea). There is no facilities for ice for the room there is no bottled water in the room. The toiletries are ok but on dispensers bolted to the wall. The only food outlet in the evening is the bar on the beach this is ok but waiter again no english (as if) I ordered a starter and main course and he missed out my starter so annoying for me a lost income for the hotel food was ok, you have a lot of restaurants nearby which you can walk to much better, Food in the buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner was very good and fresh staff excellent in the buffet restaurant. The only thing I didn't like in the buffet were the birds which even eat off the buffet I know this is also the perch above where you're eating which i didnt like or find hygenic, just keep the doors shut!
