Charming

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Aug 2024
This place was charming. We only stayed one night but we would have stayed longer. The location by the beach is lovely and the restaurant for breakfast was a highlight. It reminded me a bit of an old style Muskoka inn. All wood with a big terrace overlooking the water. Very pretty. The only issue was that the check in was comically long. And whats that weird statue with the cat on its head. What is that? My French wasn’t strong enough to ask was it was. Very unique!

Dear customer,
Thank you for your kind review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and the charming atmosphere of our location by the beach. We appreciate your feedback about the check-in process and will work to make it more efficient.

Regarding the statue, we're glad you found it unique! It's called "L'Homme au Chat," an original piece created by a talented artist who frequently stays at Canella Beach. He generously donated the artwork to our establishment, adding a personal touch to our surroundings.
We hope you’ll have the chance to stay with us again and enjoy more of what we have to offer!
Best regards,
The Sales Manager

The hotel is well located, with a nice private beach, the staff are really friendly and helpful.

However they are a few negative points:
- Security gate always open which allow outsiders to come park in the guest private car park so of you come back from a long day visiting this beautiful island around 6pm on the weekend you won't get any parking space.
- no security camera in car park, as mentioned the "so called" private car park get packed with other people cars that are not staying at the hotel over the weekend, and someone hit our rented car with theirs, he did not do it on purpose but he conveniently drove off in a hurry. The hotel could not do anything as they have no security camera but luckily I was outside, so I got the car registration and I had a good insurance.
- Young people from outside the hotel using the private beach late at night partying, and smoking weed, as their is no security. Now I have nothing against youngsters enjoying their life, matter of fact it does not bother me at all or threatens me in any shape of form, but i am a man, for a family hotel i would say it could be very intimidating, so I would definitely not have my wife and children walking outside the private area at nightfall.
- cleaning of the beach, most hotel usually have someone cleaning the dead algaes from the sand in the morning specially after a storm, but it seemed to be a non existent option there.
Now despite the above we still had a great stay manily because of the friendliness of the staff, and the hotel location, it is nice to get up and have the beach at your door step.

I think if they resolved the above negative point, they could easily compete with the hotel next door, where we really felt in security.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions following your stay at our establishment. We are delighted to hear that you appreciated our prime location and the friendliness of our staff. Your satisfaction is our priority, and your compliments are a true source of motivation for our entire team.

We are, however, sorry to learn that certain aspects of your experience did not meet your expectations. Your comments regarding the security of the parking area and the beach, as well as the beach cleaning, are taken very seriously. We sincerely regret the inconveniences you encountered, particularly concerning the parking and the presence of outsiders on the beach. The safety and comfort of our guests are paramount, and although we actively try to prevent illegal parking in our lot, some individuals unfortunately take advantage of the gate being open to access the beach. We are considering additional measures to better control access to the parking lot and to enhance the surveillance of the property, including the installation of security cameras.

As for beach cleaning, please be assured that our staff strives to maintain regular upkeep, especially after unfavorable weather conditions. It is possible that at the time you noticed the presence of seaweed on the beach, the cleaning had not yet been completed. We apologize for this inconvenience.

We sincerely hope that you will give us the opportunity to welcome you again, so we can provide you with an experience that fully meets your expectations. Please feel free to contact us directly during your next visit so that we can ensure your stay is as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

Sincerely,

Sylvie M.

We arrived at the Hotel in the evening. The young lady at Reception was very friendly and helpful. The Reception area is like a counter / booth and not very impressive as an hotel reception desk. The area seemed very dated and dull.
The garden that you walk through to get to your room is very pleasant as the flowers and plants gave it a tropical feel but it was fairly dark around the path.
The corridor to our room was stark and with the arches that went along the wall you are able to see the pool area. As it was dark I was a little concerned that anyone could be lurking behind an arch as you're entering your room.

The room was really very basic. Very old with rattan style furniture that have seen better days. After the long flight I sat on the sofa and suddenly a cockroach ran from underneath the sofa towards the coffee table.

The shower was great. The pressure was really good and after the issues and delays with Air France, the long waits & flights from Europe to Guadeloupe; having a good shower was most welcoming. The bathroom itself was dated.

The pillows in the room were really small for what looked like a king size bed. They looked more like cushions than pillows. There was only one thin sheet, no blankets and the AC thermostat couldn't be moved to make the room a bit warmer - the room was extremely cold. The bed was comfortable and we were able to get a decent night's sleep.

The restaurant was closed although based on the time it should have been open. We decided to try and find something to eat. The area around the hotel was very dark, with not much pavement for walking, not enough street lights and the few that they had were not very bright.

The hotel is located around 20 minutes from the airport with the evening traffic.

The cost of the one night's stay for this basic hotel was around USD200. Definitely not worth the 4* rating.

Dear guest,

Thank you for sharing your experience at our hotel. We apologize for the aspects of your stay that did not meet your expectations.

We are delighted to hear that you appreciated the quality of the reception you received upon arrival.
However, we take note of your comments regarding the "dated and dull reception area," which has recently been renovated. We are constantly working to improve our infrastructure and create a more welcoming atmosphere, but it's important to note that standards may differ between the American and Guadeloupean contexts.

We also apologize for the presence of a cockroach in your room. We take all necessary measures to address this issue, including regular pest control throughout the hotel. However, being in the Caribbean, occasional encounters with insects are not uncommon.

On a positive note, we are glad that you enjoyed the pleasant shower and good water pressure. We acknowledge that the bathroom itself may have been "outdated" according to your expectations, and we will take this into consideration for future renovations.

We have taken note of your feedback regarding the pillows, bed linens, and air conditioning. Your comfort is important to us, and we will ensure that the necessary steps are taken to improve these aspects.

We apologize for the closure of the restaurant during your one-night stay, which did not meet your expectations.
Please note that the restaurant is not open seven days a week, during low season.

Regarding the hotel's location, we understand that the surrounding area may be dark and lack well-lit sidewalks.
We will consider your feedback to improve the safety and accessibility of our surroundings, although this falls under the responsibility of the Gosier region.

Lastly, we understand your disappointment regarding the value for money of your stay.
We appreciate your comments and will strive to improve our offering to better meet your expectations.

Thank you once again for sharing your experience with us.
Your feedback is valuable in helping us improve our service and facilities.

Best regards,
The hotel team.

Dear customer,

We are sorry to hear that your experience at Canella Beach Hotel was not satisfactory. We have taken note of your disappointment regarding the condition of the rooms, which you described as "vétuste" (run-down), the cleanliness of the air conditioning unit, and the quality of the food, which you found "insatisfaisantes" (unsatisfactory). We understand that everyone has different expectations, and we strive to meet them, but the standards in Guadeloupe may differ from those in the United States.

We are aware that the beauty of the location is not enough to compensate for the other negative aspects you mentioned. Your recommendation to stay elsewhere is taken into account, and we regret that we were not able to meet your expectations.

Your comments are important to us, and we will pass them on to our management team so that they can take the appropriate measures to improve the quality of our establishment.

We sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your impressions, and we hope that you will find more satisfactory accommodation during your future travels.

Best regards,
The hotel team

The location is perfect the rooms more than adequate but need to be verified before clients arrive A/C needs cleaning as they’re filthy dirty, cupboards need airing tiles need replacing.

Breakfast is continental with added sausages & bacon & powdered eggs, when the Barman & the two young employees we’re working service was Spock & span now that they’ve left ans the older lady is working service has gone downhill food replaced only when you ask.

Great little private beach with access to the sea and water-sports, the bar was closed because of Covid but the same restaurant was open at night (didn’t quite understand that one) unfortunately while we were at the hotel younger clientele were smoking cannabis everywhere and were never asked to stop running up and down the corridor at 2am, unfortunately it wasn’t that relaxing.

One morning we couldn’t change our beach towels they had none left or the external company hadn’t delivered fresh ones.
Nice swimming pool
Difficult to find parking barrier was left open and outside clients took our parking space.
Nice reception team always happy to help
Badly organized housecleaning always cleaning our room when we wanted to use it even in the afternoon.

Overall good 3-star hotel but badly managed, hotel beginning to fall apart badly maintained by the site director or the group.

We choosed this hotel because of its location on the beach, not too far from the Marina, nice staff, very friendly,
BUT: they make prices to the local people to fill the hotel during week end and then the mess begins. Overcrowded pool, the breakfast arena becomes a long queue as they don't take the initiative too dubble the buffet. In a corona period wearing the mask at the buffet is ok but not with interminable queues. The buffet itselve is simple to'resume : correct and everday the same . They annonce two restaurants during the day, but nothing open while the hotel is complete every week-end. Non-résidents use the beach and the too small parking and succeed to enter the "private" pool.
The day of check inn our room was dirty while they also tell doing the necessary désinfection because of corona. No control about people using the facilites, we saw Guy's coming inn just to check . The kitchens on the terraces, however usefull need to be refurbished. In fact many pictures on the website do not fit with the reality. We didnt't get what we excpected. The agglomérate board bedspring needed to be change as the old one was broken , so the sleep quality was affected the 3 first nights .
