Franzini’s Bistro restaurant—5 French’s Lane, Trim
This gem is hidden away in a row of storefronts at 5 French’s Lane overlooking the footbridge across the river Boyne. It has a wide range of offerings, including lamb shank and salmon, all well prepared and beautifully presented. On a Saturday night the place was filled with locals, including a group of stylishly-dressed young women celebrating a memorable event in the rear of the restaurant. Consequently, it was a bit noisy, but the food made it worth the distraction.

We enjoyed our first dinner in Ireland - pretty good Italian meal and good service. Some menu items not available - perhaps let guest know before they decide what they'd liek,

Great food and service within 3 minute walk of Trim Casle - reasonably priced, definitely worth a visit.

Maybe the headline is faint praise (Trim Castle Hotel bar was bad, Brogan's Steakhouse was out of business), but Franzini's actually was good enough that we ate there twice during a three-night stay in Trim in which we explored Bru Na Boinne, went into Dublin, etc. Franzini's has a big menu, with ample portions, and some pretty good food overall. The service was more than adequate for our group of seven. If there was a better dining experience in Trim, we didn't see it ...

We ate here on the recommendation of our b&b host and we have to say we were disappointed. The restaurant was busy, but not full and it seemed to be understaffed. We had made a reservation and were seated promptly and our drink orders taken. The server did not take the food order and we had to wait at least 15 minutes for the manager to do so. A bizarre concept. The meal (ribs, salad) was average. The aggravating finale was having to wait for at least 15 minutes for the bill after having asked for it. When it finally arrived, it was the wrong bill. We waited at least another 10 minutes for the correct copy. Food - average. Service - poor. Would we return? No.
