We where three girls staying here, we got a private room for same price as a dorm, the breakfast was okey noting special but the kitchen close at 9pm so really early. Good location and you can book all the tours thru them. The room was cozy, you got thick blankets because it was cold by night. The beds where really hard, got back pain afterwards. We might even got bed bugs from there but it's not sure. Had some bites and my friends felt it to a few days later. You could hear people talking from the room next to our room and also one night people where sitting outside of our room talking until late and you could here everything. They don't really have any specific common areas so a bit harder to talk to people. But if you just passing by for the zip line and not gonna stay so long then this is a good place. Close to everything!

We booked a private rooms with 3 beds for 2 night. In the first night we were only two in the room and in the second night a friend of ours joined in. We made this very clear to the team when we took the room and agreed on a price of $35/night.

On the second day, when our friend came in the two young bullies who manage place (I assume their father is the owner) refused to let our friend enter the room and requested an additional payment of $15!

Overall the team (i.e the tow bullies) were very aggressive, unresponsive and very pushy.

There are a lot of great hostels in the ares. I would suggest you take a different one.

Despite the reviews I read, hotel el tucan provided a good hostel experience. The dorns were full so the owner provided a double (bunkbed) with shared bath at the dorm price. Breakfast is grab and go, which is perfect if you want to get out early - but get there right at 6:30 if you want fruit. There is a clean fridge and they have computers you can use, and tge owners are willing to help organize whatever you want - if you are a student be sure to inquire about student discounts (that goes for all of Monteverde)!

The only downside is the people badgering you right when you get off the bus to come to to their place...and sometimes it can be a bit loud on tge main street side, but I think that is true for all of the hotels in town. Oh, and despite the advertisement, there wasn't warm water, at least when I was there. Other than that a great stay in Santa Elena, and cheap!

They is a lot of competition in the span of a few blocks, which keeps the prices low and quality decent for hostels. However, beware that they make a lot of money selling you tours, and can be a bit relentless.
