This place is fantastic! I was traveling solo and initially stayed in Santa Teresa. It was crowded, dusty, and noisy. I found the tambor tropical online and got out of there as soon as I could.

I was so glad I did! The pictures do not do this place justice! The rooms are lovely and well appointed, full studio apartments with kitchens and everything you need to cook. The second story units have the best view of the ocean and you can sleep with the windows open hearing the waves crash. It is not directly on the beach, set a bit back, but there’s nothing between you and the water. This part of the area feels more local and less touristy. I enjoyed the peace, quiet, and being surrounded by nature. The resort has a jungle setting behind it that is excellent for all kinds of tropical birdwatching as others have mentioned. I spotted macaws flying around in the nearby trees every morning.
Last but not least, the manager, Juan Carlos, is attentive, thoughtful and will take good care of you. Highly recommend this hidden gem
Off the beaten path!

My stay at Tambor Tropical was amazing! The hotel grounds and the suites are beautiful and luxuriously comfortable, and the atmosphere is peaceful. Everyone who works there is charming, kind and very professional. The restaurant served healthy, simple and delicious dishes. They also work with a tour company called Pura Vida that is on-site and that provides excellent services. We used them to go zip-lining and to visit the Montezuma cascades and everything was seamless. I cannot recommend this resort enough!

Our group of four wound up at the Tambor Tropical quite by accident. Prior to stopping in Tambor we had spent one night in a vacation rental that we'd booked for a week. I'll spare you the details as to why we only spent one night but having stopped at the Tropical only to have breakfast on our quest to find rooms for the week we were pleased to find they actually had vacancies for two nights although it was going to require moving from room to room. At this point we were ecstatic to find any place clean to lay our heads for a few nights. After one night's stay we found out that the staff had done some rearranging which allowed us to keep our same rooms for the entire week if we wanted to stay that long! We didn't think twice and booked the rest of the week.

We can't say enough about the staff...they were beyond accommodating. The services offered are all that you'd find at a five star resort but on the grounds of small, intimate, adults only private retreat. The hotel also works in conjunction with Pura Vida Expeditions, located on the premises, who can arrange a wide variety of expeditions from bird watching, ATV tours, horseback riding, snorkeling and so much more.

Thanks Andrea, Fatima, Alejandra, Juan Carlos, Sylvia, Roberto and the rest of the wonderful folks at Tambor Tropical. And a big shout-out to Javier of Pura Vida who taught us so much about Costa Rica!

Room tip: No t.v. or telephones but they do have free wifi.

We were passing by and had lunch here. The out door setting near the beach was lovely and comfortable. The service was good. The food was average. We had heard it was good so perhaps we ordered wrongly. If I was in the area I would certainly stop again.

My wife and I just returned from Tambor Tropical at 1:am last night and on the way home were are trying to figure out when we can get back and with whom. There are 12 villas on the property and it is Adults Only. It is quiet (no TV's, but Wifi is good), peaceful and romantic <3 While on site we had near a dozen people say that they were staying a another place that was crowded, noisy and full of kids who wished that they would have stayed here. One actually relocated with another planning a future trip. The restaurant seating is outdoor under the sky and the sound of the waves. The food is excellent! Thank you, Mark, Juan Carlos, Fatima, Sylvia, Mariella and Roberto, just to name a few ;-) For the adventure buffs and bird lovers Pura Vida Expeditions is on site and all of our trips left from Tambor Tropical.
