This hotel is designed for tours and coach parties and had a large restaurant and bar area. However as a single traveller I was made to feel welcome.
The decor is dated in the rooms and in the communal areas but all were well maintained and spotless.
The room was large as was the ensuite shower room but, it was warm and well maintained. There was a large dressing table area along with plenty of drawers. There was also a chair, table and fitted wardrobes offering lots of hanging space.
The bar was large with plenty of tables and chairs and a good selection of whiskies and beers.
The Monarch Restaurant offered a limited selection on the menu but was certainly adequate and welcome in the cold weather. The restaurant is brightly lit like a canteen, but the tables had white cloths on them which softened the appearance a little. I had a rather good salmon mouse which was delicious and fish and chips afterwards - which was ok. The food is reasonably priced and the service good.
Breakfast was to order due to Covid. There was porridge on the menu and the full Scottish a little on the greasy side but okMore
