Sai Kaew Beach Resort
Ranked #3 of 20 Hotels in Ko Samet
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 6 March 2012

My family and I stayed at the Sai Kaew Beach Resort for 5 days and were a bit disappointed.

Even though the location is nice and we were given nice rooms (around the pool) with an air conditioner that was a bit loud, we felt that it was overpriced. The staff was friendly and we appreciated the organization of the transfer from the main land (which is not properly described by the hotel, we found out because we called). The hotel has been taken over by a tour operator from Sweden, so there are many young couples with small children (that don't mingle/play with other kids), most of the time well behaved kids. There are not enough beach umbrellas/beach loungers on the beach, so you have to be there relatively early in the morning or you may not get one. The restaurant was way overpriced, we ate there once and then ate at restaurants down the beach that were much cheaper (at least by 50%). The beach is nice (fine sand), but there is a lot of trash (plastic bottles and bags) that wash up on shore. I think hotel staff picks it up every morning, but it's a shame. And one thing we found very annoying (for the amount of money we paid) is the continuous traffic of boats that drop off customers right on the beach by the hotel. We did not come to the beach to hear the noise of engines and breathe fumes from diesel engines....

Room Tip: Get a refurbished room by the pool. we asked for one upon arrival because of a previous review on Tr...

1 hour and 10 minutes from Laem Chabang. 3200 Baht return taxi. 30 minute ferry ride to Ko Samet where you take a pickup truck for 5 minutes to the resort.
Relaxing and quiet enough. Other places on the same beach with bars and restaurants were livelier at night, which is good if you want to return to peace and quiet at the end of the night.
Buffet breakfast semi-outdoors......flies can be annoying.
Agoda.com had a good price. No need to Reserve the ferry boat, just get there 20 minutes before. 3 trips each way per day.

I booked this resort for 4 nights in Feb with my partner. The hotel looked fab and we were looking forward to a relaxing few days on Koh Samet.

We were very surprised to arrive and see that the hotel is mainly all Swedish families on a TUI package holiday. There are so many children everywhere you have got no chance of a relaxing and peaceful time. Whether it be at breakfast or trying to have a cocktail by the pool.

Luckily the location is fantastic, right on a beautiful beach, so we made sure we reserved 2 sunbeds early. The families tended to use the pool areas and couples the beach sunbeds. Children outnumber adults by about 10 to 1, so although the hotel was lovely we felt unable to make use of the facilities, inc bar facing seafront.

This resort fully caters to families and not couples, had we known this we would def not have booked.

We booked through booking .com for a pool view room, We found the reception on the mainland at there own pier so follow the instruction on your booking and you cannot go wrtong, there are a few piers at Bang Phe but only one has a Big Sign for Sai Kaew reception, your luggage is checked in there and if you have time, you can then shop in Bang Phe, when it is time to sail your luggage is taken to the boat and loaded, then you are transported down the pier to the boat. when we arrived we where asked to have the pool room for one night then we would be upgraded to a premier seaside room, we where not to happy to move, but we had no option really and the staff where very good about it, the following morning we where able to move after breakfast to our new room which to say the least was fantastic very spacious with very large bathroom and wet room shower, which was accesable directly from the patio.
The resort has direct acces to the beach and good sunbeds, which seem to be fully reserved before 07.30 so beware if you want a beach chair its early to rise to get one. The buffet breakfast is excellent with a good variety of food bothe western and asian. The staff we found very helpful, pleasant and gave excellent service. It should be noted that it is a TUI package hotel and whilst we where there it had a lot of children on holiday so it can get quite noisy arround the pool, But we had amost enjoyable time there, the best resturant is Red Ginger on the main street excellent food and baked ribs to die for a big big meal!

Room Tip: We had room 101 but there are only 6 of this type of room

For our first visit to Koh Samet our daughter had recommended this hotel as they had stayed a few months ago. Living in Thailand and knowing the standard and prices of the hotels we were surprised that we had to pay over 6000 baht a night through Agoda, but it was a deluxe room.
When we arrived the beach looked beautiful and the restaurant and bar overlooking it very modern.
We were then taken to our deluxe room, what a disappointment !!!
The small room was very dark, painted forest green with stains on the walls and our view on a beautiful island a high wall.
The bedsheets had holes in them and the hard grey white towels looked as though they had been chewed on the ends by one of the dogs roaming around the complex.
We instantly asked to change rooms but were shown the only other two vacant rooms which were equally as depressing. As we had paid Agoda in full in advance we had no option but to stay.
The sink had no hot water so we had to boil a kettle for my husband to have a shave each day.
We were not informed that there was a free transfer from the pier on the mainland until we arrived at the hotel and had already paid for a return speed boat trip.
On our return to Bangkok we found out that our daughter had stayed in a room overlooking the pool ,obviously there is a vast difference in the rooms as she said theirs was modern and well furnished, sadly ours was just the opposite.
Very disappointing !!!

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a refurbished room.
