I spent 3 wonderful days visiting Oaxaca this week
and stayed at the beautiful Hotel Angel Inn located in the the quiet San Felipe de Agua neighborhood. It is about a 15 min. and a 6 peso bus ride to the Zocolo. The rooms were spacious with large bathrooms and the shower had handicapped bars.Organic soaps shampoos, conditioners and also a hair dryer .
Wifi and cable TV, A/C and secure parking if needed.

The grounds and garden are beautiful and tranquil.
I had breakfast, lunch and diner in the second floor restaurant and all meals were terrific, Beautiful piano bar & paintings and antiques are everywhere but the best thing was a wonderful staff, from the gardener to the lovely owner Terisa I was made to feel like family, I hated to leave.

We had a reservation elsewhere, that didn't go through, and we only found out about it about a week before we were supposed to arrive. It was the first days of November, so the city was full of tourists, and we started a panicky search for another hotel. From the pictures we saw this was a quirky, little hotel. The truth was that it looked much better in pictures than in reality.
The price was high for the basic room we got. The beds were very hard, and we had trouble sleeping in them for the three days of our stay. The bathroom was nice and clean, with good water pressure.
The hotel has a decent bar and a good restaurant. Although it is a bit pricey, at some point you do not have a choice, because the location is not close to a lot of restaurants.
It is true that the bus stops almost right in front of the hotel and in less than 10 minutes you can be in the city centre, for very cheap, but going back to the hotel can be a bit of a hassle, especially after 9 when buses stop running. Taxis are not that expensive, but we felt it was not really worth it. If you are driving, this is definitely not a problem.
All in all, I think we would have found a hotel in the same price range closer to the city centre. The staff was helpful, but the dealbreaker is the distance to the city centre, unless you are looking for relaxation away from the busy city centre.

My family and I came upon the Angel Inn by attending one of those awful time-share presentations. We had spent one horrific night at the Holiday Inn (avoid by all costs!) and vacated as soon as we could. It was Semana Santa and hotel vacancies became an issue. The presenters at the time-share recommended the lovely hideaway, the Angel Inn. We were delighted as we entered the geranium-lined patio and beautifully painted accomodations. The owners of the Angel Inn took the time to add charm to both the interior and exterior of the hotel. Another bonus was the small but enjoyable pool and umbrella shaded pool-side seating. The hotel serves meals in a small on-site restaurant. My parents and I dined there and enjoyed our meals. They also have a small bar. What we most loved about the property, however, was the staff who went the extra mile to assist us with everything. The additional bonus is that the hotel is located in the upscale residential town of San Felipe del Agua, a delightful town with tree-lined streets and a beautifully quaint church. San Felipe is worlds aways from the hustle and bustle of Oaxaca center and yet it takes only a short and inexpensive bus ride to the main square of Oaxaca. I highly recommend the Angel Inn.
