HIGHLY recommend booking with Skelligwalker! It's the nicest, fastest boat and it has a BATHROOM on board. You have the option of seating inside or outside throughout the ride. It takes about an hour to get to the island, where you then have 2.5 hours to get to the top, explore, and take it all in. We were fortunate to have great weather. The island itself is unbelievable - it really does seem like it's from another world. The guides at the top were incredibly informative and very, very helpful. Don't be embarrassed to ask them about the Star Wars connection. Do book your tickets as early as possible because they sell out. Only 180 people are allowed on the island during the season so plan EARLY. The climb itself is challenging, steep, and not for the faint of heart, but certainly doable for anyone in good health

We were lucky to come across this company! We booked months in advance and so glad we did. It was a rainy day but this boat has an inside cabin! After seeing some of the other boats I am so glad we picked this company!!!!
The ride out was smooth! And we had great instructions. Once on Skellig Michael we were met by a park official and she explained safety rules etc.
We then began our 600 step hike to the top! I am very afraid of heights but I am so glad I made it to the top. Steps and path were a little slippery due to the rain but you have two hours to go up and come down. Once at the top there are bee hive huts from the monastery plus another guide who will give you info etc.
The walk down was scary(not going to lie!) but we had plenty of time to go slow!
One of the highlights was the puffins! They are everywhere!
The water was very rough for the journey back- this is where our boat made the difference. While other companies had their passengers suiting up with rain gear, we were greeted by our captain once again and able to take a seat inside the cabin! The cabin had old airline seats and they were so comfy! The cabin had a glass ceiling and you could watch the waves crash over the boat. If you get seasick then I highly recommend Dramamine before you go!! (My family took some and had no problems- and two of them typically get sick).
Once back we were able to have lunch at the cafe and watch the history movie.
This was an AMAZING experience and so glad I did it!!!! It was hard (since I am afraid of heights) but such an accomplishment!

Had an amazing trip out to Skellig Michael. It was the best weather of the week. Truly enjoyable. Boat leaves from the Skellig experience center. Small museum there, safety and historical videos were informative. Great cafe. You wait around a bit but was good time to read the exhibitions and have a cup of tea. The boat, captain and crew are fantastic. Boat has ample outdoor AND indoor seating plus a toilet. All very unusual for this landing tour. Heed the safety video and realize that even when the seas are calm you're going to feel motion of the ocean. Hike was unbelievable and well covered elsewhere. If you're going to Skellig Michael then book with Skellig Walker.

Today it was windy and misty. We were advised to arrive early so we rushed to the location. There we waited 45 minutes awaiting on others.
We were delighted to go even though conditions were not favourable. With the mist we saw nothing on the way out. Some people vomited onto the deck.
When we arrived it was amazing even though it was misty.
On the island it was very cold and our wet clothes didn't help. Waterproof clothing is highly recommended. It was self guided and the many steps quickly had old and young all tired within minutes.
2 hours on the island is plenty to see all. We caught the end of a guides speech and never knew it was on. She was so softly spoken hardly anyone knew what she was saying.
Coming back was good. Our skipper offered us more ginger and a cup of tea. He also took time to take a photo of each couple with the island in the background.

Definately worth going and on a beautiful day this would be amazing.

Skellig Michael landing trips are very hard to come by these days as all boats are booked months ahead but we got very lucky as there must have been a cancellation and we managed to grab a couple of slots for a Sunday cruise.

We were greeted in the Visitor's Centre and could walk around the exhibition as well as get some supplies in the cafe (critical! no way to get water / food on the boat or the island!!)

We departed at 9.45am. The boat looks brand new with very comfy airplane seats, closed cabin, glass roof and a bathroom (crucial too!). The crew were great but the young fella kept taking our seats and falling asleep in them when we were moving in and out of the cabin to take the views from the open area at the back of the boat ;) Not an issue, funny, but some people may view it as unprofessional.

The ride was very bumpy. It's an open sea after all so expected. If you suffer from motion sickness - take pills cause the trip to the island takes 1h.

We arrived at the dock and walked around the island for a safety talk before ascending 600 steps to the monastery. The description of the island deserves a separate review but in short - it was spectacular. The nature, the views, monastery - mind blowing experience!

We had around 2,5h on the island and at 1.30pm we were picked up by the boat. We then cruised towards Small Skellig island (can't land there) which was beautiful and full of birds. Circled it around and returned to the shore. Return trip was much smoother and took only 30 mins or so.

Reading reviews of other boats, I have a feeling that Skellig Walker's if by far the best. Boat is very comfortable and very fast - we overtook everyone on the way ;) Some other boats I saw had only outside seats so people arrived wet. And having a toilet on-board is a huge advantage as there are no facilities on the island. So it's 5h without a toilet if the boat doesn't have one.
