We had requested a ground floor room because the hotel does not have an elevator. We were offered an upgrade to a first floor room with a 40 foot wrap-around balcony, which we were delighted to select. The balcony provided a small ocean view, but was a relaxing place to sit - and even had a drying rack for wet clothes. The breakfast is great and options are changed daily (panacotta was especially nice). The staff were great and could not have been friendlier and warmer - they even fetched my glasses that I left in town at a restaurant. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are dark. No elevator in hotel

Amazing views and service. This has to be the cleanest hotel we have ever stayed in, and we have travelled extensively, often to 5-star properties. It just gleams. This is not a fancy place, but it is family-run, which makes up for any missing amenities, such as an elevator. Tremendous value for money. The hotel staff and management can't do enough for you here. The manager, Dimos, is more like a concierge, providing advice, directions, tips, and more. We felt very at home here. The breakfast is great, so make sure you include it in your rate. It's small, buffet-style, but they often offer to cook up omelets, or practically anything else you would like. This is not a place for those with mobility issues... it's a climb from the beach to get to the hotel, but you are rewarded with amazing views - and as mentioned, there's no elevator. It's a great way to work off all the wonderful, fresh Greek food. We hope to return!

Six friends and I stayed at Hotel Astoria a few weeks ago while visiting Crete. The owners son was very kind to let us into two of our rooms before our check-in. He was also kind enough to add a fourth room to our reservation. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were just okay and bathing was a challenge due to the very small size of the coffins.....er, showers.

We were able to take a quick ten minute walk down to the beach from the hotel. The walk home was not as easy due to all of the small side streets and possibly the amount of wine we were forced to drink on the beach. Before dinner we enjoyed some wine and snacks on the front porch with another guest. He was a lovely older gentleman from Amsterdam that loved his cigarettes, his wine and flirting with the young ladies.

A special shout out to Martin who was kind enough to help one of our friends locate her phone that she was convinced she had lost. He was most gracious comforting her when she was in distress until they located her phone. Our continental breakfast in the morning was good, everything was very tasty. One of our Another friend really enjoyed the fresh strawberries, she said she could taste them in her mouth the rest of the day.

All in all it was a very memorable experience for us that one of my friends shall never forget. Thank you!

Room Tip: One of the most "hands-on" hotel manager we met in Crete

This hotel is run by a family with absolutely amazing family members. They all work together to make their guests stay special. The room we had was great: spacious, clean, well equiped and even with a balcony. We couldn't have asked for more. The breakfast was five-star-quality. Every morning the grandma gets up very early to prepare all these delicious food - unbelievable. And whenever we needed an advise or directions someone took care of us, ordered us a taxi or gave recommendations. Next time Agia Galini we will stay here again.

Room Tip: They have rooms with ocean view or mountain view, both are beautiful.
