The Expedia write-up for this place is a little misleading as it doesn't mention that the hotel has cold water only, which I think is very important in helping people to make an informed decision on where to stay. 'free toiletries' is also stretching it for the bar of soap you get by the sink!
The location is pretty good with the national park an easy walking distance, the restaurant was nice and very useful to have one on site when we didn't want to venture out during rainy season. The staff are all friendly and helpful. One lady speaks perfect English, but a little Spanish is helpful for communicating with everybody else. The gardens are lovely (would benefit from a bird table to make a bit of a feature of the amount of wildlife they get) and the pool was good and deep (but with children's pool).
The reason for my rating is firstly the price point, which I feel is pretty high for a cold water only basic hotel, and the rooms. The rooms are pretty rustic with gaps in the slats which let in quite a lot of bugs. They're reasonably clean on a day to day basis but there are a lot of cobwebs in the ceiling slats and up behind the curtains. The electrics are a bit sparky and the toilet flush was fairly ineffective.More
