“Gem in the rain forest”
Reviewed 29 January 2012

My wife and I were here for a week at the end of January 2012 (80's-90's daily). We love this area and recommend TikiVillas as one of the best places to stay while in Uvita. Need 4x4 to stay here.

Thomas and Cindy are delightful hosts, the tranquil atomsphere they create in the main house reminds you that you're on vacation as soon as you arrive.

Our Villa (#5) had AC and an outdoor "jungle shower" which is really a fun and special experience. Having two showers was a great treat for us. Very luxurious!

This Villa is the end of the row and has a beautiful view of the ocean and primary rain forest. In fact, it is set in the side of a jungle mountain right in the jungle. Just a quick walk to the car park or take another path to the main house for the pool, breakfast and drinks. Great kitchenette easy to keep clean and efficient. Bathroom was all beautiful stone with a walk in closet attached to it, great for two people. Two chairs on a open balcony with sliding glass doors. Citronella plug ins come in every room and work wonders. Not one bug bite from inside the room.

Toucans almost everyday, you start to recognize the song then spot them in the trees right off your balcony. White face monkeys made their way across the mountain a few times right behind the Villas. This place is about lounging by the pool or on your deck enjoying the immense jungle views. Gorgeous beaches are all up and down the coastal highway, take your choice and explore them all. Be sure to ask Thomas for suggestions and local favorites. Highlights were Dominical, Hotel Leonore Beach Club, Las Ventanas Beach and in Ojochol (25min drive away), Citrus Restaurant, Exotica Restaurant and Yiang Yiang Restaurant.

You are in a coastal rain forest area with limited built up areas. This is an adventure at every turn kind of vacation; Route 27 goes N and S from TikiVillas and you can cruise up and down every day. Beaches are endless with very few people. You can find a town or supermarket when you need all charming.

About 3hrs from San Jose airport. Nice ride, easier with GPS.

Once you get here you won't regret it....thanks again Thomas and Cindy!!

Room Tip: Villa 5, AC and Jungle Shower

The short version: This place would be a steal at twice the price. You will not regret staying here, my wife and I didn't.

The long: From the great private lodges, to waking up to nature's alarm clocks (howler monkeys), to the incredible FREE breakfast, the great drinks, the beautiful pool, and two owners who understand hospitality. The location is great for taking a ton of day trips, and is a great way to experience Costa Rica. Coming from someone who hates traveling to the same place twice, I would go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The rooms without air conditioners are fine, actually preferred. They have better air movement, one...

We had a reservation for 3 days at TikiVillas, but we liked it there so much that we stayed for five. The room's fold away walls open up on two sides to the rainforest with a view of the ocean. Normally when traveling, I don't spend much time in my room because I want to go see the place I've come to see...but waking up here, you're already in the postcard-perfect Costa Rica you came for.

There are only 5 bungalows, so there's no concern about overcrowding. Breakfast is included and you have a hot plate and fridge in the room. Thomas and Cindy are really great and give suggestions for dinner and activities as well as other places and lodging recommendations in Costa Rica. Honestly, we didn't want to leave. This was exactly what we were looking for...beautiful and relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Bungalow 4 and 5 for most privacy.

My husband and I stayed in Villa 5 for nearly a week in December. The location was super for touring and dining options from Dominical to Ojochal. We found the owners and staff to be quite agreeable and our comfortable villa kept spotless. The delicious breakfasts poolside and the amply-sized and frosty bar drinks complimented the views making even a rainy week thoroughly enjoyable. Toucans were observed every morning on the property.

Room Tip: Villa 5 was at the end of the lower line if a higher degree of privacy without the additional stairs...

My wife and I stayed at TikiVillas in December 2011. The property is tucked into the jungle in a beautiful setting. It's a beautiful region in Costa Rica.

The property includes five individual bungalows and a common "lodge." The lodge includes a common seating area, small bar and infinity pool. The pool is definitely a highlight of the property; you can soak in the pool and enjoy a scenic view of the jungle and ocean.

Our bungalow was clean and comfortable. It reminded me of "upscale camping" in a rain forest setting. A small kitchenette was convenient for food storage, although it would be difficult to use for actual meal preparation. The bathroom was clean and had an inside and outside shower. The bed was comfortable. The overall room can be opened into the jungle view (large open windows and "expandable" doors). On balance, very nice, but remember: upscale camping.

The breakfast (included in the price) was very good, although the menu is not fixed. We had pancakes, eggs and bacon on one day, and pancakes on another day (no eggs or bacon). The staff is warm and polite.

The howler monkeys live behind the main lodge. They are loud but reclusive. You can hear them and you know that they are in the nearby trees, but they are extremely difficult to spot. However, the property is in the jungle, so you'll see other wildlife. For us, highlights included a toucan and a family of bats. We saw the howlers rustling some foliage one morning.

I'm deducting one star for problems with electricity throughout our trip. Also, note that the property is listed for sale. You might want to contact the owners and confirm that a sale would not impact your pending visit.

Room Tip: Contact the owners if you want a room with A/C.

Dear Knoxmarlow, Thank you very much for your review. We are sorry for the two instances of lost power, and we had it up and running within a few minutes. This was due to a circuit breaker that was faulty and since replaced. Our complimentary brakefast is a la cart comes with fresh tropical fruits, tea or coffee, fresh bread as well as a choice of typical, eggs & bacon, pancakes or cereal. TikiVillas is not for sale and any listings on the web date back before it was taken off the market. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and TikiVillas and hope to see you again soon! Pura Vida!
