We used Hotel Celaje for one night after the house we were staying in was broken into. The property is beautiful. There is a large pool you can swim in and see the ocean. The beach is steps away from the property. The property is very rustic and fits in very well with the surrounding area. There are 7 cabins, and they are quite charming. There is no air conditioning, but there is a large ceiling fan and a smaller fan that helps somewhat with the heat. This hotel is perfect for living in Costa Rica among the locals. There is free wifi in the restaurant and pool area, but it does not extend to the cabinas.

Hotel Celaje is a tucked away little paradise with great people, charming cabinas, a fantastic restaurant and a nice pool area. Todd, Kasia and their family were fantastic to meet and showed us some lovely beaches and things to do in the area that we would not have known about. Christian in the kitchen is very kind and makes the best chicken schnitzel with pineapple we have ever had. We will be back the next time we are in the area and look forward to seeing our new friends again.

Room Tip: Request room 1 or 2 - they are the farthest from the road

Marco has a great team that keeps the Celaje going in tip top shape. Elvira, Patricia keep the kitchen, front desk, bar and dining room running smoothly and very organized. The breakfast is served via a buffet and are visited by the visiting Magpie Jays.
The cleaning staff, Martha and Carolina keep the very charming cabins clean with crisp cotton sheeting that are air dried via ocean breezes.

At night the bar and restaurant is manned by the charming Christian who will try to make all your wishes come true.

The pool and grounds are taken care of by Luis who keeps the pool sparkling clean.
It is so nice to meet the other guests coming to Cabuya to who are there off the beaten track to enjoy the Cabo Blanco Park and the wildlife that graces the property.

The beach is a rocky beach which does not allow the avid beach goer
but does allow for a quiet environment and awesome views of the Cabuya Island and all the sea birds that fly about. The moon rises and sunrises are awesome there and don't forget to go to the beach on moonless nights to take advantage of the best star gazing in the world, no light pollution there.

Two years ago I went there for a month and was taken care of an awesome Swiss movement expert Barbara Vogel. She gives aqua fit classes in the pool two mornings a week. Barbara aided me a great deal when I went down to recover with a total hip replacement. She worked with me privately and made an incredible program for me in the pool to help me regain my mobility.

All in all the time we spent there was very enjoyable and recommend this very laid back and charming environment.

Where to begin? In all we spent nearly 3 weeks travelling around Costa Rica (our first trip) and were blown away by the rich diversity we found across 7 different locations, but, our 5 days in Hotel Celaje was by far our favourite spot for several different reasons (we extended our stay - but not nearly by enough). Just a few km outside of the small but busy town of Montezuma we arrived in Cabuya to the sound of howler monkeys, jungle insects and crashing waves. On arrival the staff were very welcoming and allowed us to use the facilities before our bungalow was even ready. The site is a peaceful haven and picture postcard of most travellers vision of 'paradise'. The comfortable bar area is full of great pirate and natural antique décor. WiFi is available around the bar and pool areas - its not in the bungalows but who cares - you should be forgetting about the outside world! The gardens and paths are brilliant landscape design merging seamlessly into the surrounding jungle, bungalows, pool area and coastline. The bungalows allowed for privacy and were exceptionally well made and comfortable. We even had a fridge to allow us to cool our water and a few tins of beer (something which we didn't see in any other accommodation). Evenings were spent relaxing in the hammocks by our bungalow or facing out to the sea. The guests were even spoilt with a movie night with a makeshift mini outdoor cinema. The food was great and tidy pool area perfect for a dip to cool off or relax with a book. There were loads of interesting walks in the area and staff were happy to advise. The coast is mostly rocky with small beaches nearby but this mosaic allows for rock-pooling, exploring and other surfable beaches just minutes away in the car. Its also close to yet far enough away to see the larger hustle bustle of Malpias and Santa Teresa which were much more crowded but with bigger beaches. Celaje is definitely a place to be if you want to switch off from the grid and unwind. Everything is very well priced and the hospitality and customer service made our short stay all the more memorable. Marco and his team deliver the goods and Cadush the little dog will keep you exercised with his rubber ducks! Really hope to return some day, for longer and do a spot of fishing. Celaje cranked Costa Rica up to 11! ;-) - Lloyd and Geraldine - UK & France

Marco the Dutch owner is very nice. And he has created a lovely spot, very nicely appointed with antiques. Great welcoming pool, great meals. The rooms were very jungley with mosquito nets - nice - A frames. Cuyaca is a secluded spot a few miles from busy little Montezuma and we liked it so much more. We walked out to Cemetery Island when the tide was low - very interesting. And ate down the road also at a little unsigned place run by an 84 year old lady who cooked us the best (very cheap) meal we had anywhere in Costa Rica.
