“a great wee find”
Reviewed 19 February 2012

We took a drive over after seeing in the local paper that they'd won an award. A wonderful wee place- an old byre done up but still rustic in its charm, displaying a selection of art work and serving a refreshing selection of teas. The cocoa-rich, intensely gooey- almost molten- chocolate brownies were worth the drive, and more. Go out of yor way to try them!

“A very special place”
Reviewed 6 February 2012

The owners, Elly and Craig have made this a very special place. We visited Red Roof Cafe Gallery in mid December.
The restaurant is on the Duirinish peninsula of north west Skye and as such is quite a drive to get to. On the evening we were there, the roads were very icy but we are so glad we didn't call it off.
The evening consisted of a four course meal with traditional Scottish music performed after the meal by Elly (Fiddle/Vocals) and Craig (Guitar/Vocals) themselves. The food served was superb. All allergies or intolerances are positively catered for, with a dessert of wheat free, dairy free florentines. The staff and service were both exceptional. As for value for money, you'd expect to pay a lot more for this much quality.
Also, don't forget to take a look at Elly's wonderful art displayed on the walls.
If you're on the Isle of Skye, please take time out to have a meal at the Red Roof Cafe Gallery. You won't regret it!

“One of the most delightful cafes I've been to”
Reviewed 3 January 2012

Although somewhat difficult to get to, the Red Roof Cafe is worth the effort. The phrase "off the beaten track" is often thrown around but definitely fits the description here. The cafe is a very old building that has been refurbished and welcomes guests with a warm cosy interior.
The people were warm and friendly and plenty of locals dropped in to have a chat and a coffee giving it a wonderful embracing charm. We had their platter featuring peat smoked salmon, smoked ham and crowdie cheese served with self made onion bagels and oat crackers and greens sourced from a farmer up the road. For those who love their greens, the greens are an incredible collection of flavours. The unassuming variety hid an array of flavours ranging from aniseed. mustard, horse radish, fennel to a fiery pepper. I was even given an extra bag to take away with me when I commented on it.

The cafe sits in a pleasant valley and eating outdoors would have capped the day were it not for our visit being in the depth of winter. I totally recommend it as part of any exploration of that part of the island.

“Festive Supper Party Night”
Reviewed 29 December 2011

My wife and I attended the Festive Supper Party on 17th December. The food was magnificent, all home made, and totally flawless. The meal was served as if we were at a dinner party not in a formal way as you would expect in a restaurant. The result was an atmosphere unlike anything I have experienced anywhere else. The entire meal simply oozed quality, from the cheesy scones topped with Skye crowdie and peat smoked salmon, through the wild venison casserole with all the trimmings to the sublime chocolate brownie and home made mince pies. This was then topped off with a concert from Craig and Elly and a good old fashioned sing song. If these Supper Party Nights do not become a regular feature of the Red Roof then I will lose all faith in humanity and leave the planet forthwith.

“Eat, drink and be merry”
Reviewed 26 December 2011

The Red Roof Gallery, a gem found in Glandale, Isle of Skye.

We were invited to a private Christmas supper £25 per head, it was fantastic, great food, smoked salmon, venison, chocolate pud, what could better that, yes it was the live music provided by Elly and Craig, a perfect pre Christmas sing along in a wonderful setting.

Exceptional value, beautifully executed. Thanks you to all.
