Having had lunch next door at Bessie's tea shop we stopped by here at about 7:30 on a Saturday evening on one of the hottest days of the year. The restaurant was busy but soon cleared a table.
The waitress confirmed that they do gluten-free fish and chips (plaice, cod, haddock), although this isn't advertised anywhere on the menu. Be careful, though, as the fish is cooked in the same oil as the rest.
My companion had the GF haddock and chips and I had the normal haddock. Both dishes were lovely: the GF batter was very light and my companion commended it; both fish portions were good-sized but not enormous. The fish was cooked perfectly; the chips were just right. Our portion of tartare sauce was very generous and nicely flavoured.
The service was really friendly indeed; both from our waitress and the manager.
The only downside was the state of the gents toilet, which was really rather unpleasant.
