The resort itself is very clean and well laid out, very picturesque setting with great views. Staff appeared attentive. All this is soon forgotten when it just become another mediocre hotel. The rooms are basic, bathroom ageing with shower that leaks water everywhere, bed was comfy enough. No natural light into our room which was meant to be a slight upgrade (through Thomson) so would not like to be in the most basic. The spa was fairly expensive for what it is, fitness area was 10Euro extra a day and was very sparse with outdated and broken machines.
And on to the food, breakfast was a buffet which on the first day was interesting but by the end of a week was very dull and uninviting. Coffee was barely drinkable, given being in Italy this should have been the easiest part to get right. Fresh fruit was the highlight. The pool bar only served food up until 3pm so if you're hungry between 3pm and 7:30pm (start of dinner) you just had to starve or go into town. Dinner was mediocre from the start. The choice was not very varied and what there was was generally average in taste. Drinks were reasonably priced at the bar and in the main restaurant.
But then there is the terrace restaurant which you have to book in advance, the single biggest rip off at this resort. It's an extra 10Euro per person for the privilege and you chose from a set menu in the morning so it can be all prepared in advance ready for you… They also take a drinks order at this time. We order 1/2 litre of house red wine for this. On the night we were deeply disappointed by the Lobster Linguini, 2 tiny bits of shell in a bland linguini dish. We even had to ask specifically for Lobster forks to get the minuscule amount of flesh out. There was then a 45 minute wait for another bland fish dish which thankfully was swiftly followed by dessert after which we then just got up and left. The entire meal was 48 Euros, the 1/2L bottle of house red was 26Euro. Considering the local (better) restaurant Torro charged 6Euros for an equally good local house wine this was a huge rip off and one which was not even told to us until the bill was paid (they charge you first without telling you the amount). If you are staying at this resort soon I would STRONGLY recommend you avoid the rip off terrace restaurant. The food was no better than the buffet and for similar money you could eat at Torro in the town and have a far better experience.
Overall, location OK, room below par, staff friendly, food below par, chances to get extra money out of you - HIGH.
