I booked this motel for 5 nights because it was close to the airport and it looked nice in the photos. I should have taken notice of the bad reviews. Our room was filthy with the bed sheets not changes. Lifted the flimsy mattress and found bugs, hair and other things that look as though they were there for several days maybe weeks.

If that wasn't enough, then my wife went into the bathroom and found a large ball of brushed hair on the bathroom floor and in the bathtub. That was enough for us and we complained to the manager who was a pleasant enough person but we were not going to stay there that night or any night. On Booking.com this motel was rated 4 star. It should really be rated 2 star at best.

We googled for other nearby motels and were lucky to find a great motel down the road called Olympic Palace. Now this IS a 5 star motel and we managed to enjoy our stay in Rhodes.

This is a difficult review to write because I want to rave about the hotel; it is in an excellent position, it has so much potential and friendly helpful staff, yet it is so tired and so poorly maintained that it only just scrapes a 2 out of 10. There are several types of rooms available; 1 bedroom ones which overlook the pool area and their views to the sea are obstructed by the two bedroom apartments which have a sea view. Both blocks have subterranean rooms (dungeons), they are all poorly decorated and maintained with many faults, including broken fridges and cooker hobs, shower heads which can only lay in the bath as there is no wall fixings, broken toilet seats and very basic tatty furniture and beds. If you get a room in the dungeons like we did, you will probably want to leave almost immediately (so bad that if we were not relocated, we would have left and paid for another hotel). Fortunately, we asked to move and we were moved to a "better" room (only made better by the fact it was not in the dungeon), but as the hotel was full, many others were not moved and probably had a torrid time during their stay. The staff fully understand the complaints about the “dungeons” but their hands are tied and they cannot leave the rooms empty. If they were cleaned better and brightened up with better furniture and lights which worked they could be improved upon. On the plus side, the rooms were cleaned everyday but please ignore the offer of beach towels as they are obviously ones which have been left by previous guests and are well past their best.
The pool is great when used by the guests but is spoiled by a daily invasion of local children and their parents who shout and scream and take all the sunbeds and seating so there is generally a mass exodus of paying guest at this time. The management do not seem to understand that the paying guests have paid for the facility and want peace and quiet on their well-deserved break. The bar is well stocked and the bar staff are friendly but is very expensive, even though this is a self-catering establishment, you are not permitted to bring your own food and drink even to the beach area! We did not use the restaurant so cannot comment.
To summarize, the hotel has so much potential but is so poorly maintained and utilized that it spoils the whole experience. The staff are friendly and helpful but their hands are tied by a management that is probably happy with the fact that the hotel is fully booked most of the time. It has become a cash cow for them, so why spend any money improving the place just to please customers who probably will not return until they do. The day we left, new mattresses were being delivered which may be a slight improvement, however the euphoria of seeing this was spoiled by a rat running up the stairs in front of us. If you have already booked, be prepared for disappointment but do not become too worried as the hotel is full of potential and well situated. If you have not booked yet I suggest you wait to see reviews that the hotel is being refurbished.

Room Tip: Book a 2 room apartment for a seaview and ask for 1st, 2nd or 3rd floor. Avoid ground floor like the plague.

Firstly all staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful.
We checked in late and were given keys to room 13, which was fine however the balcony is on ground level and right next to the bar and a walkway, at first we didn't think it was too bad then the second night we felt everyone was looking in as they walked past. Next morning went to reception to see if we could move and the receptionist said she would have to ring the manager and get back to us. 10 mins later found us by the pool, gave us keys and we moved!
The pool area and the beach are lovely, great location for all day sun.
The room was not immaculately clean but the linen and towels were clean and the shower was powerful - we were hardly in the room. One of the beds did squeak at the slightest movement.
Our aircon was brilliant - too cold in the night!
We ate a snack here one day which was cheap and tasty enough.
For the first couple of days we tried to get a cooked "English breakfast", we asked the bar man in the day who said it was before 10am so next day went to reception who said it was after 10 when bar and kitchen staff came in... so we did and he said before 10! (Never did get to the bottom of this)
On the Sunday there were local children but we were told we were lucky as the went back to the school on the Monday after we arrived.

we came here for a family holiday and had an apartment.our view was fab, overlooking the beach.we could have done with more storage room, such as extra drawers.we only had one mirror as the other bedroom didnt have one so that was fun when 3 females are fighting over one mirror.the bathroom door kept locking from the outside so we couldnt shut the door otherwise we had to use the front door to open it.there was a lot of noise on our last night from the apartment above and it sounded like an angry man was smashing up the apartment.i couldnt sleep cos i was so scared.
theo was very helpful and friendly,as were all the young staff we met.the thing that annoyed me was when,as paying residents we couldnt get a sun lounger due to parents of the many local children swimming in our pool.if you are lucky to get a lounger when this is happening do not expect to relax or read a book,as you will get splashed from all directions.there was a fab looking sun 'bed' near the pool but for the entire week there were towels on it,but never once did i see anyone on it. gggrrrr.
the parasols do not provide any shade as they are so threadbare.so no shade.needed replacing in the 80s.you are right next to the beach though, which is great, and there are polystyrene filled beds nearer the beach.the area itself is nice and quiet, and you have a couple of nice resteraunts over the road, and more bars and resteraunts within a short walking distance.and you are right next to the beach.
none of us managed to get wifi for the whole holiday, which was annoying, especially with 3 teenagers.
we had a late flight so asked if there were any facilities for getting changed and storing luggage.i was told by the receptionist to leave our cases in middle of reception, behind a pole.marvellous.really safe there, bearing in mind it was near the main door and people were in and out all the time.and the shower room was out of order. not my worst holiday,as it was a lovely location, and staff were polite, but improvements do need to be made.

Where to begin...

1. The room did not live up to expected standards at all. There is apparently a new apartment block and an older one, the obviously use the new one for images and to bait you into living here. Unfortunately for us, we ended up in the old one. I've been to an old soviet hotel complex which couldn't have been refurbished since the 50's which had better standards than this. The bathroom had rust and dirt stains, and something weird was growing in the window and in the bathtub. It was also quite dusty and it didn't really seem to have been cleaned properly in a while. Which is odd, because the toilet brush looked really well used and full of, well.. You can guess. The "kitchen" area had old appliances that were dusty and dirty. On the bright side it had a refrigerator which actually worked. The bed's are really hard. You might as well sleep on the floor, doesn't make much difference, well, other than the various insects which live in the room might run over you. I also had some concerns about the quality of work done around the electrical appliances, they looked quite hazardous and electrical wiring often disappeared into large holes. Other furniture was really well used and broken / run down. A/C is extra, but that is disclaimed, so that's fair.

2. The rooms were visited every day by cleaning staff, but somehow is was still dirty when we got back to our room. When we complained about this, management sent three cleaning ladies up to our room, and they made our beds. But the room was still dirty and uncleaned.. I mean, there was a solid coat of dust under our beds, which could be swiped away with a finger, so not sure what made the cleaning to challenging. Towels were changed every third day.

3. The pool were visited by everyone, which made the area really trafficked and a bit hard to get room around it. Look at it as a public pool, with no entry fee. The oddest part however was that the pool was being rented out to some sort of local swimming team. At which point they effectively closed have the pool with a barrier. Also this swimming practicing naturally led to a lot of splashing around the pool area onto the sunbeds. Also the kid's were accompanied by their family, so it got even more crowded.

4. The staff were for the most part polite, especially the ones working in the pool bar and the cleaning staff. But the receptionist and manager were really rude, angry and hostile when we tried to reach out to them to improve our situation. (They thought we were dumb, when we didn't accept their proposed transfer to an even shoddier looking hotel. Hotel parthenon, in the city, close to the bar street...... On a family tip.). The manager actually tilted out at me at one point, screaming and shouting. He said, "You only pay for room, no furniture or better, only room". Ok then.

5. Stay clear of the "breakfast".. I am tempted to make a guess the food is the leftovers from other nearby hotels. The selection is very poor and it get's even worse once you realize the cheese is moldy and the bread is dried out.

6. The paid WIFI is so horrible they made it free. It works like 30% of the time, and at that time it is really slow. If you have a fetish for the olden days with dial-up connection, you might like it.

7. Some kids were smoking pot in an old abandoned pool bar on the premise.. Which was interesting.

8. The beach is really nice. It's a bit windy and rocky, but on hot days and if you don't want sand everywhere, this type of beach is great.

Rhodes is a nice island. There is much to experience and lot's to enjoy. Most people (beside the manager and receptionist) are hospitable and kind. Don't waste the experience by living in a shoddy hotel like we did. Because even if you get into the nice apartment block (which costs more by the way), you will still have to live with the run down facilities and angry manager. You are worth more than this. It's supposed to be a vacation after all...

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.
