My son and I visited the old port and wandered around as our tour group spent their time in shops or cafes. The site is familiar to students of Venetian history. The Battle of Lepanto was fought here. Venetian have left their mark in this town (and many others in Greece). Cervantes also left his mark on the site and is commemorated by a very interesting statue at harour-side.
