My sister and me have been in Santa Teresa together. She surfed before, I only did wind- and kitesurfing. I was a little afraid of beeing the only absolute beginner in our Group, but soon I discovered that there should not be any worries. Ben is an excellent instructor and we got the waves from our first day on. Even my sister said he was so much better than her last teacher.
Everybody in Ben's surfshop was always friendly and on our last day (of 5) Ben took us to another spot in Cabuya to try and catch some green waves. So much fun!!
Thank you very much!
I was so glad I took a lesson from these guys my first time surfing! It made a huge difference. They fit me in even though I hadn't made a reservation ahead of time and you can keep the board the rest of the day. The instructor was super knowledgeable and helped me figure out what I did wrong if I fell off so I could fix it. His English was great.
What a blast!
Little did we know that we WOULD be able to stand up on that board and ride some waves. Ben gave us such excellent instruction and patiently helped me succeed despite some trepidation on my part. My husband was soon up and away on his own but I needed a bit more of a push to catch the waves. It was such fun - definitely recommend Ben to get you up and on your board!
The guys who taught our group gave us amazing tips when we went to Santa Teresa. The beach also has 3 breaks so they were the perfect waves for beginners. They made sure to walk you through how to get up and then they went out to sea with you to make sure your board was lined up properly and could ride the wave efficiently. I had a blast! They also included a rash guard in our purchase.
Make sure to wear lots of sunscreen!
I booked my adult daughter a surf lesson at Nalu which is the shop that was recommended by our hotel staff at Casa Marbella. Nalu was at the bottom of the hill from the hotel and across the street from the beach so the location was very convenient for us. I did no research regarding surf shops and didn't bother to compare lessons or offers and just trusted the hotel's recommendation in part because of the convenience. I thought the price was completely reasonable ($50 or $60 US dollars, can't remember exactly). My daughter didn't get a free shirt which we didn't really care about although others we talked to later kept asking whether or not there was a shirt included. Although I paid for a group lesson my daughter ended up with a private lesson from Eguardo who was wonderful. He was an excellent instructor (my daughter had never surfed before and was a bit nervous) as he knew how to explain technique in a way that a non-surfer would understand. He was excellent at seeing exactly what she needed to change in her positioning or technique and explained it to her in a clear, positive and non-critical way. His positivity and encouragement kept my daughter from getting frustrated and she had a great time during her private lesson with Eguardo. He's pretty easy on the eyes too, which didn't hurt either :) !
It was our first surf lesson, our teacher was awesome! Super patient, and professional. We paid 45$/each for the day and kept the surfboard for the whole day. They give the lessons in the morning (around 9ish) and 3PM because of the waves.
