The Four Seasons in Costa Rica was amazing. They made us feel right at home. The highlight for me and my wife was surfing with Jerry at Tropic Surf! Don’t hesitate to get out with the Tropic Surf crew. Malcom was great with communication and Jerry has the conditions dialed. Witches Rock was out of sight! I can’t wait to go back. Pricey, and overall disappointing.

We really had our hopes set high for our upcoming three night stay in the Pacifico Suite at the Four Seasons, and were left feeling tepid, at best.

The good-the room is beautiful. The screened in living space, the ample living/dining area, the full kitchen and laundry facilities made staying with a toddler that much easier. The full size crib was fantastic, as were the additional baby-friendly amenities (swim diapers, a diaper genie, and wipes). The babysitting staff was great (thank you Leni-you are a gem).

The bad, or rather, the disappointing-the diapers left in the room are a nice touch, but they were for a newborn, and our daughter is 19 months. The diaper genie is great, but was missing the deodorizer, so was essentially just a stinky trash bin. Our room came with service (mini) bar included, but wasn’t restocked fully every day. A DND was on the door as our daughter was sleeping, and a member of the engineering team rang the bell anyway to replace a lightbulb requested by someone in housekeeping four hours prior (unbeknownst to us). The food was really mediocre, at best. As former New Yorkers, we were not put off by the exorbitant pricing, but were expecting significantly higher quality, and better options. No real options if you wanted a taste of Costa Rica. No arroz con pollo, no casado, nothing that felt any different than being in the states. We were so disappointed that we headed back to the Andaz beach club for lunch one day. The beds were SO SOFT. Both of us were in awful pain in the mornings. When we mentioned this to the front desk at checkout, they were surprised, and a bit ambivalent.

Overall, this is a standard Four Seasons property. It is beautiful-yes. But it’s standard, generic beauty. Dozens of palm trees in perfect placement around the property, perfect white towels, perfect staff, who is attentive, but not an actual entity-as in, they blend into the background and have no real impact on your stay. This could have been a Four Seasons anywhere. Miami, LA, etc. Nothing felt authentic to Costa Rica. Granted, as we were traveling with a toddler, we did not get an opportunity to experience any of the included activities. Maybe those are more authentic to the country, but we were sad we could not have that at the resort itself. Maybe this is what someone who is used to the Four Seasons brand expects, and that is fine. Just not for us.

Dear Nataliya, we are happy you enjoyed the beautiful Pacifico Suite, but disappointed with the inconveniences you experienced. We pride ourselves on providing warm Costa Rican hospitality – it’s the reason so many of our guests return year after year, because our staff provide genuine service the resort has come to be known for. Not the usual Four Seasons experience. The facility and surrounding development was purchased a year ago or so and the units have been redone.....just not all that well. The property feels like the developer is just putting lipstick on the dated property to probably flip it.

The property in no way feels like Costa Rica, even though they market it that way. The property is not bad......just not as good as it needs to be!

We rented a villa with private splash pool and the room was quite nice. $2,800/night after taxes and fees. The view was wonderful as was the service. The villas have no real separation and the extensive use of cheap siding just sucks. It is used everywhere on the property. Gives that nice rural Iowa feel.

The design and execution of the remodel in the main building was also poor. Mixed wood, more poor siding, uncomfortable chairs and just poor design.

The main lodging buildings that flank the property are ugly. The sides need to be addressed to make the property more appealing.

Overall, the resort is a fine experience. Service was wonderful as always. Food was terrific as expected.

The resort is in a remote part of Costa Rica and will probably really never make a great destination. I have traveled Cosa Rica quite a bit over the past ten years and this will not be on my list to visit again. There are 5-star resorts in Costa Rica, this is just not one of them.

For reference, we stay at around 4 to 5 Four Season resorts a year around the world.

Room tip: Villas with private splash pools are nice!

This resort never disappoints. We took our kids for the first time this year and they are already asking when we can return. We visited towards the end of the rainy season so be prepared for potential varying weather. However, the resort does an incredible job at keeping you comfortable and occupied during the good and the bad weather.

This is a true gem! What a great place to holiday, from the moment you arrive your every need is attended to. This was our 3rd visit to the property, we have never gone anywhere else twice.

The rooms are wonderful, what you should get at a Four Seasons. The on-site food options are great for every meal, quality of service exceptional. The spa is outstanding as is their services. I would strongly suggest the plunge pools in the spa around sunset, that takes the off!

Cocktails are delicious, a great splurge is on a cabana for the day. This property has two of its own beaches, very private and relaxing. It never feels busy, very calm yet plenty of good times to be had in the evening.

We will probably be back again for a fourth run.
