This is an exceptional cave with impressive stalactites and stalagmites of all sizes left and right and everywhere. There are some cool lighting effects from the guide. He even did some amazing singing in the cathedral (without echo). As in all caves the guides are very informative. The tour is around 45 minutes and good shoes and a jacket are a good idea. From there it is a easy drive to the Ruakuri cave.

This was a real find. We did the three main attractions at Waitomo and this one was very impressive. Here you see lots of different cave formations of varying sizes in every direction you look.

We also did the nearby walk up the river through several short tunnels. On this you can see a few glow worms up close in the daylight.

Note that this cave is a 5-10 min drive from the main Waitomo visitor centre.

I actually came here for the waitomo and ruakuri caves but they disappointed me (especially the waitomo one). I wasn’t expecting anything about Aranui cave and it ended being the best one. The guide was very interesting and I learned many things in one hour! Also the cave is stunning and the lights very well made, it is really beautiful! The only cave I would recommend in the area !

We upgraded our glow worm tour to include a tour of the Aranui Cave as well, and I'm glad we did. The Glow Worm cave was very disappointing but this cave was unbelievable.

The group was much much smaller than the glow worm cave tour which made it easier to not only view the cave, but to ask questions of our guide and to have a more personal tour. We were given an ample amount of time to view each section of the cave and its amazing natural structures. Our guide was very informative.

If you only have time to do one cave, skip the glow worms and do this one instead.

This cave and the glow worm cave make the Waitomo experience. This one provides a totally different experience from the glow worm cave and is better than the Rakarui
