Came here for family wedding. Impressive building with beautiful grounds. The inside is superb. The staff that did the wedding meal couldn't fault them worked their socks off on the whole the food was good had the salmon starter and thought it could do with something to lift the flavour and the beef for the mains was a little tough. I was a chef for 20 years so have done many events like this. The breakfast was very good and the same staff who worked the night before but still managed to be polite and helpful, so top marks to them.
The reason for 3 stars is the rooms. Holes in the walls broken tiles in the bathroom needs a lot to update them, and a portable TV straight from the 80's. Some rooms had shared bathrooms one guest said she was cold all night due to a draft blowing through the window. Shame really it's a big old place that must need some maintaining but it looks like it's maintained on a show string. It could be so wonderful I dare not think how much money it would need to upgrade it. Having spent the previous night at a premier inn at half the room rate we couldn't help but compare Gregynog is lacking in all areas in the standard of rooms. More
