We popped in for a quick bite before visiting the Roman Army museum and really enjoyed the delicious soups and sandwiches. The bread that came with the soups was incredible - moist and nutty and simply delicious. The friendly woman serving managed to both make all the food and serve a full house and almost made it look easy. Everything was great (and surprisingly inexpensive given the quality- the soups and bread were £3.95, my son's poached eggs on toast was £3.50 and daughter's sandwich £3.95 - crazy good value). Go here!

Thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed your visit. The "friendly lady" was my very capable manager, Kirsty, who does a stirling job, both in the kitchen and front of house. Couldn't manage without her...

We stumbled across Kasteale yesterday (after not at first realising it was a cafe due to the unusual name and discrete signage) but are so glad we did. We were welcomed warmly and openly, and pleased to find that as well as delicious wholesome cakes (we had filling date and oat slices) and reduced price refills of filter coffee they also stock local, fairtrade and organic produce, including Suma products. So we just had to go back again today for more after a lovely walk down Haltwhistle Burn: this time for a lovely moist St Clements tea bread, chocolate cake, lemon and ginger tea and a chai. And helpful opening hours too. We'll definitely be back next time we're near Haltwhistle, highly recommended. Thank you :-)

thankyou Sarah, for taking the time to review. I am glad you enjoyed the cakes. THe date and oat slice is a firm favourite on the menu now. It is a "Cranks" recipe from their original shop back in the 60's. For those who don't know they were the first specialist wholefood cafe in London, the name being a reference to when people who were vegetarians where considered "Cranks". Their recipe books are inspiring if you can get hold of them.

As our B&B didn't provide breakfast, we were on the lookout for a likely place to eat. We found this on the first day, and didn't bother to look for anywhere else - it's good food at a good price. Our special favourite was crumpets with melted cheese - wonderful!

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. It is always appreciated. Lovely to meet you and hope you enjoyed your stay in Haltwhistle. Everyone I have spoken to has been very complimentary about your choice of B&B at Belford House as well.

I was waiting for the train and having a hour to spend I popped in as you do.

Food was very good as was the coffee.

I liked that the two waitresses took the time to sit and talk with me. Ok it wasn't busy but at least we had an interesting chat and I got a good car hire tip for my visit to Spain.

thanks for taking the time to review. One of the nice things about this job is the chance to talk to people from all over the world. Hope you got to Bellingham ok and that the rest of your trip to the UK meets your expectations.

We entered as the owner was mopping up and received a warm and friendly welcome. The owner was really friendly and the teas, coffees, hot chocs and cakes were delicious and the cafe was spotlessly clean. I had read a previous review about meal prices and so I had a look at the menu. It seemed really reasonable and totally in line with most cafes. Also, the meal options looked great (although we didn't have tea there in the end).

The menu also catered massively for people with various allergies, or for those needing a gluten free option - e.g, soup of the day was offered with rustic bread, GF bread or a dairy free option. There were also cards on the table for people to point out their allergies.

Thanks also to the owner, who provided information about the locality and things to do and other places to eat during our stay.

Many thanks for the kind review. Always pleased to point out what this area has to offer. It is not always easy to find out information out of hours in a rural locality.
