Description: A traditional family run country pub serving home cooked food and a selection of real ales, beers, wines and spirits. Booking are recommended during the busy summer season. Sorry but we are unable to allow dogs inside the pub however, dogs are very welcome in the beer garden.

We were recommended this pub when we were staying at Herding Hill Farm just down the road towards Haltwhistle.
We popped in for Sunday lunch after a bracing walk on Hadrian's Wall and were not disappointed. The pub was cosy, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was generous and well-presented. The lamb roast, fish and chips and spinach and ricotta cannelloni were all delicious.
Would go back if we were in the area again.

Excellent pub, food superb! Real ale and open fire with a view to die for! Very reasonably priced too!

Having booked two nights B&B at Bridge House just 2 minutes walk away, this was the obvious place to eat and we were not disappointed. The interior of the pub is cosy and quaint with a couple of dining areas in rooms either side of the main bar.
Service was friendly and there was a large menu with many tempting choices. Despite the fact that the place was not enormously busy, a good number of the dishes were unavailable - as shown by red dots. Fortunately this did not adversely influence our choice.
The barman seemed to be multi-tasking. He served at the bar, took orders, waited on table, cleared tables, handled billing and even seemed to be involved in the food preparation in the kitchen. Consequently, there were periods when customers needed to be patient.
The portions were enormous and should keep any hiker well fuelled. The cherry Bakewell with ice-cream was astounding.
We were well pleased with our two visits to the Milecastle Inn.

Whilst the pub was really nice inside and the beer was excellent, service was slow due to it being Sat lunchtime with only one poor lad serving drinks as well as taking food orders. Didn't eat as a result as we assumed it would take too long to go to the bar again !

Close by Hadrian's Wall and at the road junction to Haltwhistle, this warm and welcoming pub provides excellent food and drink. Reservations are recommended.
